CompTIA Security+ (SY0-701) Training - The complete and best preparation guide for the CompTIA Security+ Exam

Our take
Based on the ratings of 450 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in September 2024. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a 15-hour video walkthrough of the CompTIA Security+ SY0-701 exam. It has 16 parts covering the exam domains, plus a welcome section and a final exam, across 164 lectures, 18 quizzes and one practice test. Alexander Oni teaches with slides and spoken definitions. The course was last updated in September 2024, so it is over two years old, though SY0-701 is the exam it targets. It suits entry-level learners better than people who already work in security.
Reviewers like how clear and easy to listen to he is, and several mention the examples. One said it covered terms missing from a popular Security+ book, and another passed on the first try. The complaints are consistent too. Some say he reads the slides with little explanation, a few topics get glossed over, and there are no labs. Quiz answers come with no explanations, and a couple of reviewers found answers that contradict what he teaches. Others called it too thin to pass on its own.
Of 450 ratings, 271 are five stars and only 14 are one or two stars, so most students came away happy. Treat it as a first pass through the material rather than your only resource. Pair it with a separate bank of practice questions before booking the exam. For anyone who wants a lecture format, a clear voice and a modest time commitment, it is a sensible place to start.
Pros
- Reviewers call Oni's delivery clear and easy to listen to, and several praise his examples
- Sixteen parts follow the SY0-701 objectives, so the syllabus maps to what the exam covers
- Comes with a free e-book study guide, 18 quizzes and a final exam to check progress
- One reviewer passed first try, and another found terms missing from a popular study book
Cons
- Several reviewers say he mostly reads the slides and rushes past some topics
- No labs, and quizzes give no explanation of why answers are right or wrong
- Some reviewers found quiz answers that contradict what is taught; last updated September 2024
Helped in preparing for the exam. Passed the exam today on the first try.
Listed for all levels, but it expects some cybersecurity basics, and networking knowledge helps.

Great Information and easy to listen to. I'm impressed by the amount of detail this course contains.

The words being defined are overwritten by the lesson number and title and can't be seen. The word needs to be placed lower on the slide so it is near the definition. Also, quiz answers do not explain why an answer is incorrect or correct. It would be beneficial to learn why the answer is not correct, maybe once the correct answer is selected to provide why the other answers are incorrect and why the correct answer is the best answer.

Good, and I passed the test today (barely, but it counts!). I do have a couple suggestions for improvements. One, NEED an acroynm referance for easy study. Frustrating to be constantly having to pause the video to note them. Two, about 5 of the sample test questions have incorrect answers, that also is very frustrating. Three, would help to provide in the course showing examples of the simulation type of questions. On my test there were two. The first one a diagram where you looked at logs on a number of components marking which was the source of infection, which infected, and which compromised. The second was a fill in chart with symptom, choose which type of attack likely, and choose how to combat it. A chart with that kind of summary would be a big help.
