Our take
Based on the ratings of 2,266 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in May 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a 3.2 hour introduction to security architecture, split into 41 lectures across eight sections. It opens with architecture basics, spends the most time on threat modelling, then moves through enterprise frameworks, designing for security and a closing case study. Alexander Oni does the teaching, and reviewers call his delivery lively and easy to follow. The page says some security knowledge is needed, but at least one student recommended it to people starting from scratch, and others took it as a general overview and were happy with that.
Students praise the plain language, the lack of heavy abbreviations, and the case study. The complaints are consistent, though. Reviewers want more case studies and real world examples, some material to practice on, and more depth on the frameworks. The three-star reviews add that some lectures read straight off the slides, that the architecture angle feels light in places, and that there are small video errors. One reviewer says the residual risk example does not match how residual risk is worked out.
About 87 percent of its 2,266 ratings are four or five stars, and roughly 9,000 students have enrolled. It was last updated in May 2026, so it is not stale. Treat it as a cheap, fast orientation, not as training to actually design systems. Anyone who finishes and wants practice will need a second course with labs and a deeper look at one framework.
Pros
- Plain language with few abbreviations, so security terms are easy to follow
- Threat modelling gets the biggest share, about 46 minutes over nine lectures
- The closing case study applies the ideas, and reviewers single it out as a highlight
- Lively, engaging delivery, and the material was refreshed in May 2026
Cons
- Reviewers want more case studies and real world examples of security failures
- Only two quizzes and no hands-on practice to test what you learned
- Frameworks stay shallow, and some lectures read off slides with a few video errors
Sound foundational introduction into cyber security architecture
Listed for all levels, but it assumes basic security knowledge. Best for IT staff who are new to architecture.
What you will learn
- Understand the core concepts of security architecture
- Develop and design security patterns
- Work with Enterprise Architecture Frameworks

It was a great comprehensive section for managing without getting too technical. The different frameworks were pretty rough, maybe an overview of them describing which works best for types of businesses, then separate sections for each to get into the detail. The trick is to only have a requirement to listen to one to more detail, with the others as optional. This way learners can pick one, maybe one they're company already uses, or one that would work best for their business model. This will help . Loved the case study.

Great balance between detail without overwhelming the learner while keeping the experience fluid and enjoyable. Fantastic materials - thank you for sharing the slides - and overall, I am astonished how much I learnt about such a vital topic in a short space of time. All credit to this course!

Alexander's Cyber class is excellent. The case study at the end is terrific in terms of showing how to take a real solution being built and identifying the security requirements, the data flow, threat modeling and other to ensure the right security controls are selected and put in place. Very practical and just consumable enough for what an architect needs to know.

A generic overview that is putting things into perspective and giving the important references. A couple of improvements would be a bit of further proof reading on the slides, section 5 seemed unnecessary and music in case study preview seemed unnecessary as well. Overall, suggested for people who was to start navigating the space of the architectures in a more structured way.

This course provided a solid foundation in understanding how enterprise architecture principles intersect with security frameworks. The structure of the course was clear, and the instructor explained complex concepts in an accessible way. The course successfully helped me build a strategic mindset for security architecture. Cheers!!

I am a Chartered Engineer and Lead OT Cybersecurity consultant. Even though this course is related with IT security but I was able to map the case study to OT cases which I deal with day-to-day basis. The instructor was energetic and very professional about the topics he wanted to teach. This is definitely a 5-star course. Case study is the most important resource in the course. Thankyou.

Excellent high-level refresher course for professionals who already have passed graduate level advanced Cyber Security courses. Wished it went a much deeper into use cases for risk assessments and threat modelling like in course work.

This course was quite helpful in providing a high level overview to fundamentals of Cybersecurity architecture. A few sections could be explained a little more in detail as the information provided in them was very limited. I expected more for a few sections. Overall a good course to learn new topics. The explanations were clear and crisp

I took this course to refresh my knowledge in Cybersecurity Architecture. For three hours and beind a "Fundamentals" course, this course met my expectations in explaining the principles, going more in-depth at some points, and providing reference on where one could find or search for more information on topics of interest. The presenter was well understandable all the time, the audio qualitiy was good/near-perfect and the slides were mostly presented well and completely. The PDF downloads (slides and course book) were a good extra additional to the video lectures.
By Shane Bough on 3/20/2024
Not succinct enough and was too much just reading what was on screen - there were some unprofessional edit misses left in (e.g. first minute of part 40, and other places) - most of this could have been learned more effectively by just reading the information - the case study section was good and probably the most useful part of the whole course
