A no-code introduction for leaders to understanding machine learning (and AI) as a business capability.
Created by: Robert Fox
Last updated July 2022
What you will learn
- Learn what models are, how they work, and how they fit in the overall picture of machine learning (ML) and data science.
- Lots of terminology ("AI", "deep learning", etc.); plain and simple explanations (without the hype).
- Fair warning: NO hands-on model development (NO code & NO complex formulas)
- Includes sections dedicated to *identifying* and *quantifying* machine learning opportunities.
- Focused on understanding ML as a capability that can benefit any business.

Course Description
Machine learning is a capability that business leaders should grasp if they want to extract value from data. There's a lot of hype; but there's some truth: the use of modern data science techniques could translate to a leap forward in progress or a significant competitive advantage. Whether your are building or buying "AI-powered" solutions, you should consider how your organization could benefit from machine learning.
No coding or complex math. This is not a hands-on course. We set out to explain all of the fundamental concepts you'll need in plain English.
This course is broken into 5 key parts:
Part 1: Models, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, & Artificial Intelligence Defined
This part has a simple mission: to give you a solid understanding of what Machine Learning is. Mastering the concepts and the terminology is your first step to leveraging them as a capability. We walk through basic examples to solidify understanding.
Part 2: Identifying Use Cases
Tired of hearing about the same 5 uses for machine learning over and over? Not sure if ML even applies to you? Take some expert advice on how you can discover ML opportunities in *your* organization.
Part 3: Qualifying Use Cases
Once you've identified a use for ML, you'll need to measure and qualify that opportunity. How do you analyze and quantify the advantage of an ML-driven solution? You do not need to be a data scientist to benefit from this discussion on measurement. Essential knowledge for business leaders who are responsible for optimizing a business process.
Part 4: Building an ML Competency
Key considerations and tips on building / buying ML and AI solutions.
Part 5: Strategic Take-aways
A view on how ML changes the landscape over the long term; and discussion of things you can do *now* to ensure your organization is ready to take advantage of machine learning in the future.

This was a valuable course even in the age of LLMs. As an engineering professor, I'm looking forward to apply these insights in the context of robotics. It would be nice to have that updated version of the course that considers the recent revolution in LLMs. AI Ops has become something different from ML Ops. The no-code aspect of this course was a big factor in deciding whether I should take this course. This course provides substantial familiarization with machine learning.

In my opinion it is one of the best courses on the foundational concepts of Machine Learning for a professional understanding from the business prospective for those who want to apply the Machine Learning in the practical world.

I felt the material dragged on. Although I appreciated real life examples, eventually the context felt very repetitive and I didn't feel the course was very engaging. I would have preferred something other than just talking or an infographic on some of the context. I know it was an introduction course but it was so much technical jargon that I lost interest near the middle of Section 4

thank you for the comprehensive explanation. with this course, I get a better understanding of how ML works. It would be even better if there are additional resources that we can download from this course.

The training in general is good. There seem to be a lot of repetition of things which I feel can be covered one shot and thus making the overall long training crisp and more engaging!

yes , structured my thought processes with this sesssion. i have created data models in the past, but this session has helped me understood in a more formal/theoretical structure what i was doing while creating those models.

Hello Mr Robert Fox, Thank u so much for this wonderful session on ML & AI. The course content, material & the way you explained was simply superb. Thank u so much for make this course in so simple to understand for people like us who are from non- technical background . The course of great help! Thank You So much Sir !!

The break down of the course has made it very easy to follow. The examples used could easily be transferred to our area of business. Clarifying when to Use Cases really helped with understanding what you need to look for to gain most benefit, what works and what doesn't work. . As I listened I was thinking of many ways we could benefit and optimize our business as we are fortunate to have volumes of structured Business Data. I have found from my own experience that in order to optimize your result you need to "Walk the Process" and really understand the core and non-core processes and in addition how they interact with other processes outside of your area. There are many interdependencies. This section gives a better understanding of where we can replace manual rule base decisions with automated rule based systems. We can benefit with more consistent decision making , enabling us to be better forecasters and predictors of volume/ trends in our business. The 7 Machine Learning Themes also provides some great guidance on what to focus on to improve our business performance overall. What is clear is we need to leverage our historical data , understand it which will ultimately help optimize the performance of our business.

I felt this was a good introduction to AI/Machine Learning. I found the video portion of Robert explaining the slides very useful - more than just hearing a voice explaining the slides
