Course Description
This course builds upon the skills learned in the first course in this series DAX Power Pivot – 10 Easy Steps for Beginners.
You have already gotten your hands dirty with Power Pivot and seen how awesome it is. Now you are ready to take your skills to the next level by delving deeper and acquiring a more thorough understanding of how “Disconnected” or “Parameter” tables can be utilised to gain additional insights in your data models.
The first part of the course addresses Microsoft’s change to the DAX engine that now makes editing queries a challenge if you aren’t an expert in SQL. Therefore, you learn to use Get & Transform to import data and in doing so, reduce the size of your data model file size considerably.
You will draw upon your beginner DAX skills to delve deeper into the real meaning behind “Initial Filter Context”, “Filter Context” and “Context Transition” with explanations, diagrams, examples and practice exercises.
To leverage the capabilities of “Disconnected” tables, I introduce you to the concept of thresholds, cut-offs and banding. This really does open the door to a wealth of possibilities and you’ll learn some useful techniques to gain some powerful new insights along the way.
Throughout the course, you are building your skills and understanding – taking you to the next level at each Step – 1-10.
I’ll have a couple of surprises for you along the way – not only to boost your brownie-points at work but for your own piece of mind around administration of your data models!
I've included a BONUS section featuring 7 Power Query exercises that tackle what to do with typical messy data table layouts that require manipulation even before you start! A GREAT start to getting to grips with the magic that is Power Query!
Here's what others said about the course:
“Gilly. Did it again with the Addition of Dax PowerPivot-10 easy steps for intermediate course. This intermediate Course adds more formulas and Dax functions and even disconnected slicers and cube formulas to add your learning base and continues to build off the previous two courses. Gilly is a brilliant teacher who clearly has an in-depth understanding of how power pivot works. She can break it down and simplify Dax so you know how functions works and understand how to use it in your day-to-day excel work. If you follow along and do the exercises when you’re done with a lesson you fully understand how to complete and use the Dax formulas in your data work. If you want to understand and learn Dax, Gilly courses are what you want to start with. I recommend Gilly courses, you will be pleased with your results afterwards. Well done Gilly. Thanks”

Liked the course immensely . The modules were practical and well explained. Apart from the course material, Gillian has been responsive on queries raised and helped resolve them promptly

I thought it would be more about Power BI, but I guess that wasn't the case. Okay for those who need to use Power Query, dunno how it works for me

This course is truly fantastic. I had already done another intermediate course so I thought I wasn’t going to learn anything new from this one but still wanted to use this as a refresher course. How wrong I was! I have learned lost of new things that other intermediate courses didn’t show. The instructor explains in a very easy-to-follow way and the exercises are very useful. Love it!

My election has been totally right. Instead I´m spanish and its has been a bit more difficult to follow the course in english, i have got all the knowledgments, think so, and i am very glad to have done it. Of course, i will have to overwiew everything again to set a bit more all the information in my brain, but because of languaje handicap, not for the way of teaching. Thank you.

Nice and clear presentation from Gilly. I liked the detailed and methodical way Gilly went about teaching and the PDF is really detailed in line with the online course and is really appreciated by me as I can go over certain aspects of the course offline if needed. Good job Gilly!

This is an awesome course. Gilly has just blown me away! I have been using excel / pivot and had prior familiarity in doing 4 courses on Udemy before but this course on Power Query, Pivots and Cube functions will blow your mind away! I used to say I was an advanced user but now doing course I can say I was a novice and now due to Gilly I am achieving an intermediate skill level! Way to go Gilly. This course is for all of us - for a beginner to the advanced level person because Gilly builds your knowledge, confidence from A to Z literally. This will be the best investment you will ever make. I have done two courses from Gilly and now moving on to Advance Course and Then Time Intelligence Course. Thank you so much Gilly!

This was an exelent experience for me and even though I thought that I know Excel quite well, especially the Power Pivot and the time intelligence formulas, I learned a lot of new thanks to Gilly. Personally I found the Harvested measures for the parameter Tables and the Cube tables quite helpful and magnificent. The course Material was great, and really I do not have something negative to say. Brilliant and highly recommended :)

Great course! Gill makes it very easy to follow and the cases that are shown are very relevant and easily applicable on at least in the business where I am working. Just a thought regarding the Cube values: I think the main advantage with cube values aren't mentioned in your bonus section. The only time I am converting my pivot table into a cube is when I want to use more advanced graphs, for example the waterfall chart (that is currently not possible to do based on pivot data).

This is now the second of Gilly's courses I have completed (The first one being the beginner course). They are truly outstanding. I have learnt so much from her. She has responded to each and every one of my questions, no matter how long it was taking me to "Get It". I can highly recommend her Beginner and Intermediate course and am now looking forward excitedly to her Advanced course. However, before that I am going to complete the Time Intelligence course - I have a great need for this at work, so I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in. Do yourself a favour - if you want to know DAX, and know it to a high level, take these courses. You will not be sorry.

Very interesting and useful course. All explanations are clear and detailed. The course itself is well structured, so it is easy to follow the course and get new experience. Gilly did a lot to prepare very detailed, convenient and useful materials for the course. Language of the lecture is simple and easy to follow. Gilly provides all necessary support to her students in case of ant questions. So this course exceeded my expectations and I would definitely recommend it to my friends who want to get new experience with DAX language. Special thanks to Gilly for PP utilities and bonus lectures. It was very informative and helpful.
