It has taught me that selling is not about forcing people to buy. It is about making people “thirsty” for the solution you are offering. I need to make the customer see the value of what I’m pitching—how it can solve their problems, reduce their fears, save them money or time, and make their business or life easier. I’ve also learned that listening is one of the most important skills in sales. I shouldn’t do all the talking. I need to ask the right questions, listen carefully to the customer’s answers, understand their fears, challenges and needs, and then position my product as the solution to what they have told me. The more I listen, the better I understand what the customer actually needs. And when people can clearly see how your service solves a problem that matters to them, selling becomes much easier. Don’t just sell the product. Sell the value, the solution and the feeling of relief that comes with solving their problem.

Instructor Bio
Desmond Byram is an author, book writer, speaker, and founder of SparkWords, a platform focused on resilience, communication, and personal growth.
He began studying public speaking at age 11 after his father enrolled him in his first speaking school. That early foundation sparked a lifelong commitment to mastering clarity, confidence, and persuasive communication.
After surviving a life-altering stroke, Desmond rebuilt his strength and deepened his mission: helping others understand that their voice carries power and direction.
His guiding principle is simple:
“Your voice is not noise. Its direction.”
Through his courses, Desmond teaches practical speaking, sales, and leadership skills that produce real-world results. His approach blends discipline, belief, and structure so students can communicate with authority in business and life.
When he’s not teaching, he enjoys cooking classes, salsa lessons, and watching surfers from the shoreline, studying the balance and rhythm that mastery requires.
