Truth it is great for ideas you may have missed. Quick watch and has examples of usage of the concepts. He also gives you the chance to reach out to him on the documentary you are working on which is tons of value in its self.

I took notes and added them to my collection. Working on a film preproduction now and will follow your secrets. Thank you... I will keep you informed.

Great guy and interesting course! But why all this music in the background. It is so disturbing, and absolutely not necessary for a course. In the clip the Secrets of Editing the background music level was completely over the top, to loud. I could be easily corrected and I hope it will be done for future students.

I love it and I'm filled with the desire to create my own films. Thank you for this short and encouraging ted-talk-like video, but I would like to point out that there is no technical information provided for those who are thinking of buying it.

This course was great. It is clear that Shawn has a huge passion for filmmaking and overall his tips were valuable although I feel sometimes he could go a bit deeper.

Shawn does a great job of giving some insights into making a documentary. He's upfront that this isn't a technical course, so you want find anything about cameras, camera settings and those topics. Which is good, because there are a number of Udemy courses you can take to develop those skills. The strongest section for me was the Pre-Production Secrets, particularly the Main Character and Research subsections. Shawn brings tremendous knowledge and experience to the table. I think one way to make this course stronger, or even a course on its own, is if he would take one of his documentaries and give us a behind the scenes look at the development, filming and interview process and editing. But overall, this is a unique and interesting course where you'll get some insights you likely won't get from more traditional filming and videography courses.

This is an amazing course with very valuable insights into how to make your documentaries better and deal with people in front of the camera. I learnt very good tips on how to improve my filmmaking and also on how to book more work and deal with clients. Thank you so much for this course!

This was an excellent course that delivered on what it promised. The course gave a lot of great secrets that documentary filmmakers can actually use to enhance the films they produce. The instructor was awesome and was very knowledgable about the subject and provided some amazing insights. The pace of the course was great. I would recommend this course to any inspiring or veteran documentary filmmakers because it provides valuable information that will help you avoid some of the common pitfalls that documentary filmmakers can make especially when starting out. Check out this course, you'll be happy you did.

I have an obsession with documentary courses; I have seen dozens of them, some essential, some bad. This is not really a course but more of a chat between Shawn and the viewer in which he reveals the most important things he has learned over the years. Personally, I already knew all the "secrets" he talks about but because I have been working in the field for ten years and, as I said before, I have taken dozens of courses, some taking weeks to complete. But I still appreciated this tutorial because it is practically the first one that in about an hour and a half condenses everything really important there is to know, not on the technical side but on the much more important side of content and human relationships that you need to establish if you are in this field. That's why I recommend it, look at the content, not how long it lasts!
