Course Description
This course is the foundation for the Microsoft Certificate DP-900 "Azure Data Fundamentals", and focuses on relational and non-relational data, together with analytics workloads. It is updated in line with the exam updates as of the minor updates as of 1 November 2024 and 1 November 2025.
Please note: This course is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Microsoft.
What do people like you say about this course?
Girma says: "Great! – Azure would never be difficult (as most of us think) after thoroughly going through this course."
Ankona says: "Very good course. Philip proves why is indeed the go to guy for everything to do with databases. I have taken a couple of his courses on various aspects of databases and he never disappoints."
Karen says: "This course helped me to clear the exam with 903."
We'll start off with looking at relational data. We'll create an Azure account, install an Azure SQL Database and query it. We'll then look at the 6 different clauses of the SELECT statement - SELECT, FROM, WHERE, GROUP BY, HAVING and ORDER BY. After this, we'll have a look at other relational databases, including Azure Databases for PostgreSQL, MariaDB and MySQL.
After that, we'll look at non-relational data using semi-structured and non-structured data. We'll look at the five different Cosmos DB database interfaces or APIs, and which one you should use for your particular needs. We'll also look at Table, Blob and File storage.
We'll then look at analytics workloads, including Azure data services for modern data warehouses such as Azure Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, Databricks and HDInsight.
Finally, we'll look at Microsoft Power BI and how to create basic reports and dashboards.
No prior knowledge is required - we'll even see how to get a free Azure trial!
There are regular quizzes to help you remember the information, so you can be sure that you are learning.
Once you have finished this course, you will have a good introductory knowledge of core data concepts and how they are implemented using Microsoft Azure data services. And with some practice, you could even go for an official Microsoft certification - wouldn't that look good on your CV or resume? And if you are an American college student, you might even get college credit for passing that exam.

This course was clear, well‑organized, and thorough. It covered the core data concepts in a way that was easy to follow and tied each topic back to practical Azure examples. Overall, it provided a solid foundation for anyone preparing for the exam or getting started with data fundamentals.

The course is helpful for preparing for the DP-900 exam and covers the core concepts well. However, it would be even better if the Power BI section was updated to reflect the latest exam objectives. The practice test was decent, but the number of questions is quite limited. I had to supplement this course with Microsoft Learn and other resources to feel fully confident and prepared for the certification exam.

"I took the DP-900: Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals course to strengthen my understanding of Azure's data services and expand my skills in cloud platforms. The course provided a clear and comprehensive overview of key topics like data storage, processing, and the various tools available within Azure. The content was well-structured, and the hands-on exercises helped reinforce the concepts effectively. As someone with a background in technology, I found the course to be a great match for my skill level, offering both theoretical knowledge and practical insights. It has definitely prepared me for the DP-900 certification exam and boosted my confidence in working with Azure data services."

The lecturer is great and tries to explain each concept as much as he can. However, I just took the exam and I can tell the content in here is not covering everything you need for the exam. I think solving practice tests (lots of it) is the best way to pass DP-900.
By Tatiana Pasechnik on 10/4/2022
The course was good, I only went through it within last 2-3 days and got enough knowledge to score 683 points, so no pass for me. But for many questions I had a thought "Yeah, I remember this topic in this course" but could not recall the right answer.

A lot of detail but this class will give you all the knowledge you need to pass the dp-900 exam. Thanks to phillips videos and his recommended practice tools I was able to pass on my first attempt. Looking forward to the next!

content is 5 star but the resources are a let down as a slide PDF would make the new mashup course layout easier to follow. I had to constantly pause to review the PPT presentation to make manual notes
By Aravind Hande on 4/5/2021
Passed my exam today. Used DP-900 courses by Garg, Rodrigues, and Burton. Yes, overkill! But since it was my first cloud exam, I wanted to be sure I had reviewed everything :-) Burton's notes were really useful
By Thomas Gauchet on 12/30/2020
Good job! Very clear and interesting. Course is more to prepare the exam than to be able ro really use all this, but it is indicated by the course 's title. I disagree on one point: normalization is not simplifying queries: it simplifies writes, but there is not so easy data to read than de-normalized datas. thanks a lot!
