Course Description

Hello friends!

As one of the original artificial intelligence and machine learning instructors on this platform, how could I not create a course on ChatGPT?

ChatGPT and its successor, GPT-4, have already begun to change the world. People are excited about new opportunities, and terrified of the potential impacts on our society.

This course combines 2 of my favorite topics: AI and finance (algorithmic trading).

The premise of this course is simple: use ChatGPT to build a trading bot (specifically, using pairs trading which is what I was interested in at the time).

Throughout the course, we will learn about the amazing capabilities of ChatGPT and GPT models in general, such as GPT-3, GPT-3.5, GPT-4, etc. We will learn about the many pitfalls of these models, and why you need to keep your guard up. These models do make mistakes, but we will learn how to deal with them. We will learn the best ways to make use of ChatGPT to help us be more efficient and productive.

Important consideration: Why not just ask ChatGPT yourself and forego this course? Sure, you can tell ChatGPT if you get an error and maybe it'll fix it, but that only works for syntax errors (errors that break the rules of the Python language). What you'll miss, if you don't have foundational knowledge in Python, finance, and statistics, is semantic errors (errors in logic and reasoning), because you won't even notice them in the first place. That is what it means to "keep your guard up", and that is one of the major lessons in this course, which I'm already seeing is very easy for people to miss!

So what are you waiting for? Join me now on this exciting journey! ( And maybe learn how to make some money in the process :) )

Suggested Prerequisites:

  • Decent understanding of Python and data science libraries (Numpy, Matplotlib, Pandas)

  • Basic understanding of finance (stock prices, returns, log returns, cumulative returns)

The course did not align with the expectations created by its title, "Financial Analysis: Build a ChatGPT Pairs Trading Bot." - The course feels less like "investing with ChatGPT" and more like a course on correcting and refining a pairs-trading algorithm that was initially generated by ChatGPT. - In today's AI landscape, tools such as ChatGPT, Codex, and Claude can often generate correct and functional code when provided with well-structured prompts. Therefore, manually fixing code generated by ChatGPT is no longer the most valuable skill for many learners. - Based on the course title, I expected a stronger focus on how to effectively use ChatGPT to build a complete, working trading system from scratch, including prompt engineering, iterative development, debugging strategies, and AI-assisted code generation workflows. - Basics of the pair trading was not discussed to select a pair. Correlation vs. Cointegration, Hedge Ratio Estimation, Stationarity Testing My expectation was to learn how to combine AI tools with financial analysis to rapidly develop a working trading bot, rather than focusing primarily on debugging AI-generated code.

Great course, providing solid statistical basis without only diving into the programming part. Also great information and response rate in the Q&As. All this in combination with using a practical example and putting all this knowledge in the context of AI. Some prior knowledge of Python and Numpy can be useful, but even without it, no worries, as the instructor has a free course going over the basics.

For me as an individual who hadn't have any idea about trading and finance world, was a perfect start specially the combination of finance with ChatGPT he covered all the necessary tings to make lessons easier for the beginners.

Fabulous insight on where Chat GBT has the sudden urge to make things up to fill a gap. Detailed line by line Python analysis where Chat GBT gets it right and gets it wrong. Lead me to browse LP's courses and Course Paths. Definitely will be taking more courses by the Lazy Programmers

Very informative and good to have an example (pairs trading) to work through at the same time. Being able to play with the algo and try it on different stocks was super useful. I have a much better understanding of ChatGPT and pairs trading now and feel confident to use them in my live trading account.

By Ajay Dey on 7/28/2023

The course was great and it helped me a lot understanding everything about pairs trading, and the practice exercises provided was very helpful. The way of teaching the course was very helpful. I enjoyed the entire course, got to learn many new things which will surely benefit me in doing trading projects in the future.

I was missing something, but I will write in more detail later. Basically, this is not investing with ChatGPT, but maybe more of a course on correcting errors in the pair investment algorithm recommended by ChatGPT

As a programmer I got the course mostly because I wanted to dip my fingers into algo trading and ChatGPT to expand my career possibilities. Lazy Programmer is an amazing teacher, the course really helped to kickstart my knowledge on the subject!

By Trevor Mcfarlane on 7/9/2023

I am an experienced data scientist, so I have seen many courses in my career. Lazy Programmer strikes the right balance between theory and practice. I do suggest changing the video speed, as he suggests, to play the video faster, which was the right pace for me. Lectures are split logically, so I can go back to easily review anything I need. Highly recommended.

By Melissa Erwin on 4/6/2023

The course starts off a bit slow, more at a beginner level, but definitely picks up the pace and complexity soon after the first few lectures. Lazy Programmer does a very good job of progressively introducing new concepts, and incrementally fixing the mistakes made by ChatGPT. I personally find this a good teaching style, to introduce each concept one by one, as it makes you think about things and see the improvements in action. Definitely recommend.
