Hi I’m Arend, a lifelong student and teacher, here to share my knowledge and style of teaching. I’ve been involved in the tech industry for the majority of my career and have spent the last 15 years working as a Business Analyst documenting and designing everything from back-end systems, business and personal websites and mobile applications. My preferred style of teaching is to take a hands-on approach, where I walk you through real-world examples, in order to provide you with a detailed view of the concepts/topics being covered.

Liked it so far for mobile designing and logo designing very helpful in understanding the applications in depth and thanking the tutor for all his efforts for breaking up into small breadcrumbs of understanding the applications each tool settings inspector bar layers panel etc. Regards, Rohit Bhanage

Overall I enjoyed the course. I took the course because I was looking to make the jump from photoshop to Sketch. I would have loved to see less copying of other logo's and more doing things from scratch. It was helpful to visualize logos and designs as shapes but when you were duplicating other logos i find that to be less applicable to the real world. I would have loved to do the firefox logo from scratch and see how you would attack that if it was coming from your own creative direction. I also wanted more web design but i understand you have another course so I will be sure to check that one out!

This has the makings of a 5-star course, but in it's current form it is pretty average. There is a lot of repetition and most of the course just involves duplication of logos and screenshots. The techniques learnt are very basic and are repeated often. They also do not follow 'best-practices' used in the industry. His lack of focus on symmetry, pixel fitting and the use of geometric shapes bothered me. Instead of continually tracing complicated icons and the such with the vector tool, Arend should have instead used them as references. It would have been far more beneficial to see design from the ground-up rather than a 'copy-paste' approach. You don't learn design in this course. You learn how to use Sketch.

What I really liked about this course is that we had so many different assignments to complete. With the first one, I watched the instructor do the assignment, then I'd pause the video and try to the assignment, following step by step. Then, when I learned more about how to do things, I would watch him do it once and then try to do the same thing. If I had issues, I'd go back into the video and see how he did what I was struggling with. At the end, I'd look at the end result first and try to make the assignment without watching him do it first. Then, I'd go back and see what he did and learn shortcuts to do the thing that took me 10 minutes and him 10 seconds. I could easily watch and hear him describe every keystroke every single time, even if he had done something before. I didn't have to guess at anything, and I learned a lot of shortcuts to make projects go faster. The instructor is very responsive to questions. I highly recommend this course and this instructor.

Arend's teaching style is very relaxed and friendly, in addition to being easily understood. He takes his time to thoughtfully explain why you do certain things, not just how. That helps immensely if you're serious about stepping your design game up and learning Sketch.

Does not go into the depth I was looking for. I wanted to learn more about mobile app file setup, icon color overrides for various exporting, style guide setup (icon and typography) for unified resources etc... The benefits of using Sketch for UX/UI development do not get covered. The magazine cover design area is a really great resources for people looking to get into design and learn a vector tool. I thought Arend did well with explaining the brainstorming and thought process required to move a design forward and make it your own. I am experienced with Adobe Creative Suite and many techniques are the same with AI and PS, and with the exact tool counter part. Most of the lessons are duplicating existing designs while Arend explains tool usage and technique. Seems this is for entry-level designers that want to use Sketch before other vector tools.

Useful tutorial for someone new to sketch world but i feel ( as the title says and that's the reason i bought it...) that it should have contained more examples on building web and mobile design projects ( also some prototyping and some infos about latest plugins like Craft etc ) and not so much about creating magazines and so many logos..Honestly i kind of regret buying it.

I'm brand new to Sketch and purchased this tutorial and 'Sketch 3 from A to Z: Become an App Designer'. I played Sketch 3 first and it was quick, concise, and easy to learn Sketch within a few hours. After the Sketch 3 course, I played this course and it was too long in comparison. If you are a beginner in design, this is a great course for you. However, if you are comfortable with design and know Adobe Illustrator, I would purchase, 'Sketch 3 from A to Z: Become an App Designer' instead. The functionality and shortcut keys are similar to Illustrator, which will make it a breeze to learn Sketch. This course was too slow for me and I ended up fast forwarding and speeding up the play speed to get through the courses faster.

I really, really like this course so far. The instructor is great at explaining concepts clearly. Honestly, the only feedback I have would be for him to explicitly state that the first couple sections (up until the magazine project) are meant for you to watch and listen, not necessarily to follow along with. I believe he is intending for you to get a good feel for the concepts he'll be exploring later on in-depth as you progress through the course. It's a big information dump. I know this is a pretty nitpicky suggestion. I was just kind of confused why all the sudden he'd have objects already made or pictures at the beginning of a lesson. I would get a bit flustered trying to figure out how to get the same setup as him. Then it dawned on me that he *probably* just wants you to sit back, relax, and just watch to take in all the concepts in at a surface level. Again, this is a super nitpicky suggestion and probably wouldn't be a problem for most people. The course is great and would definitely recommend. I hope he keeps up on updating it when big updates come out for the sketch.
