How to Create your Own Altcoin | Bitcoin hard fork (Udemy.com)

This is a short, single-section walkthrough of turning Bitcoin's code into a new altcoin. The syllabus shows seven lectures and about 34 minutes of video, covering a new genesis block, network parameters and consensus changes. Vasiliy Sorokin, a developer based in Russia, leads it, and the section title is in Russian even though the course language is English. Only 64 students had enrolled in the data we have, so it is a small, niche course. The requirements say programming skills are optional, but the reviews suggest they matter.

Reviewers are split. One student said they knew nothing about Bitcoin and came away understanding more than expected. Another called it a nice resource for people who already know their way around, but missed Dark Gravity Wave, other difficulty adjustment methods and changing the proof of work algorithm. Complaints are practical: the background music is distracting, mining did not work for one student, and another said the coins failed after compiling and that questions to the instructor got no reply. A further reviewer wanted to run the network beyond localhost and use the explorer.

The rating is 3.8 from 14 reviews, and nine of the 14 ratings are four or five stars. The last update was October 2018, so the tooling is likely dated. As a half-hour overview for curious developers it is reasonable. As a reliable recipe for a working coin it looks risky. Anyone going in should expect to fill the gaps from other material and not count on replies to questions.
