Emma McAdam
Hi there! I’m Emma McAdam, I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and I love helping people change. But I get it that understanding mental health can be confusing and stressful, but I also know that there’s hope-you can change your brain and resolve painful emotions- and I can walk you through that process.
I’ve been working in the field of change and growth since 2004. I got my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Utah State University and I’m currently licensed in the state of Utah. I’ve worked in settings like Juvenile Corrections, Adventure Therapy programs, High Schools, Wilderness Therapy programs, an Eating Disorder Treatment Center, a Residential Treatment Center, and Outpatient Therapy.
It can be so hard for so many people to access mental health resources. There’s big obstacles like cost, stigma, not knowing where to look or lack of high-quality local resources, and these make it hard for people to be able to get basic mental health services.

My daughter suffers from anxiety, bi-polar disorder, and panic attacks. I am seeking to understand how best to help her. We have a good relationship, but at times, I can see I enable or exhibit controlling behaviors that don't help, and may hurt her.

This course is so packed full of information that is divided into digestible segments that can be reviewed again as a refresher. Listening to Emma is like having a friend stand by your side as you do your best to support a person with mental illness. She understands what it is like to be the supporter and also a person living with mental illness. Thank you!

Heartfelt share although the information is basic for me since I am already in the field of coaching for ten years, her explanation is easy to follow and information is very organised and presented in a systematic way. I definitely learn something new for myself.

Yes it has been. I always need tools to use when I am dealing with an emotional response to a situation because I get emotional too and I need to know how to respond in a better, calmer manner so this video is giving me those tools.

This was a great course. It was relatable, with the background understanding of mental illness combined with practical skills and strategies. I found Emma to be very likeable throughout the entire course. Highly recommend to anyone with a loved one struggling with mental illness.

Yes it has been a great match for me with my own personal life. I am an addict in recovery and this is teaching me so much about myself and how to help others. My goal is to become an addictions counselor than go onto to becoming a therapist. Very helpful

It was full of some really helpful ideas that would be extremely useful should I need to support someone.

yes it is, but idk i think i will dig deeper for information about mental illness that she said it is treatable, i'm not sure whether it is treatable like it will be cured? i don't think so, I think it's only managable, you can't cured but you have a way to make this work out so you can be functional as a human being. :)

This is a wonderful course. What every family member needs to better understand what their loved one is feeling. It gets to the heart of the matter. The instructions are concise for such a sensitive complex topic. I will certainly be checking in often as the journey with my loved one progresses.

Really enjoying this course (75% complete). Emma is an engaging tutor and the lessons are just the right length to get the message across without being too long. There is so much in this course that I feel I will have to go back and revisit it many times in the future to reinforce some of the subject matter. Highly recommended.
