Our take
Based on the ratings of 547 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in August 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a practical walkthrough of testing a business idea before building it. It runs almost 8 hours across 45 lectures and 8 sections, and the biggest block, about two hours, covers building a pitch experiment with landing pages, ads, and payment buttons. The path goes from defining the problem to scouting competitors, collecting customer feedback, and reading the results. It suits entrepreneurs, product managers, and marketers. No prerequisites are listed.
Reviewers like how pragmatic it is. They mention clear examples, the many ways to evaluate an idea, and the confidence to run their own experiments. The complaints are consistent, though. Evan Kimbrell first published the course in 2015, and reviewers across several years say some tools have disappeared or dropped their free trials, and that the examples lean toward mobile apps. Two early reviewers felt it stopped abruptly with promised chapters missing, and one disliked the heavy arm waving in the talking head videos.
Udemy lists a last update of August 2026, but the reviews in our sample are older, so check the tool list against what still exists before following along step by step. The ideas themselves, like interviewing customers and trying to sell before building, hold up well. Of 547 ratings, 451 are four or five stars. It's a solid pick for learning the method, and a weaker one as a current tool tutorial.
Pros
- Covers the full path: problem, competitors, customer feedback, pitch tests, results
- Teaches selling before building, with payment buttons on landing pages and email
- Reviewers call it pragmatic and say it gave them confidence to run their own tests
- About two hours on pitch experiments, the hands-on core of the 8 hours
Cons
- Made in 2015; reviewers say some tools are gone or no longer offer free trials
- Examples lean toward mobile apps and feel narrow for other kinds of business
- Some reviewers found the videos rushed, with distracting arm waving

Course Description
Why did your last business or product idea fail? Maybe you think it's because you didn't have enough money, a good enough team, or you lost favor with the money gods. You're wrong. I know exactly why it failed. It failed because you didn't validate it beforehand. That's it. You're welcome.
It's not because you're not a code ninja or a marketing guru or the next Steve Jobs, it's because you screwed up and didn't pre-validate it. You did everything right but your idea was awful and you didn't even know it. So stop picking bad ideas.
This Idea Validation course has taught 1200+ students to dodge bad business ideas like bullets in The Matrix. It's packed with 8 hours of a proven techniques used by the pros and guarded by the super-secret club of business people who are better than you.
At the end of this course you'll know the deepest, darkest secrets of business validation:
- Running qualitative feedback trials
- Knowing your competition better than their mother (creepy)
- Rocking lean, mean online pitch experiments
- Some of the best free tools only the pros know about
- The magic price that makes you the most money
- Why you're no good at knowing if your idea is any good…even if you've built products before
Why do you need the power of "business validation"? It should be obvious, but fine:
- Because the next time you fail a product launch or pitch a dumb idea your boss is going to hate you. Instead pitch a rockstar idea along with data that says, “I'm right and you know I'm right". Watch your boss get weak in the knees.
- Because you want to get out of your cubicle and start living the entrepreneurial dream but, "I just have too many ideas so which one do I choose?" Validate your stuff, cut the fat, and you'll be on the beach sipping pina coladas in no time.
- Because you want to sell new products without stabbing around in the dark until you get a winner.
- Because you want those pro skills. Yeah, it's time to up your game.
- Because you want to be an awesome entrepreneur that everyone is jealous of.
Nine out of ten new businesses are dead on arrival and deflate like a punctured moon bounce. Don't be a moon bounce.

Evan Kimbrell
Hi, I'm Evan Kimbrell. Thanks for checking out my course.
**My courses have been featured in Forbes, CNN, Entrepreneur Magazine, BusinessInsider, BuzzFeed, Mashable, TheNextWeb, The Daily Beast, & Techcrunch**
Currently, I'm the Founder and Director of Sprintkick, a full-service, referral-only digital agency based out of San Francisco. Over the past four years I've overseen the development and launch of over 100 web and mobile apps. Clients range from two-man bootstrapping startups to multibillion dollar Fortune 100s like Wal-Mart, Dick's Sporting Goods, and GNC.
Prior to Sprintkick I worked as a VC for a new firm called Juvo Capital, based out of L.A. I spearheaded the firm's expansion into Silicon Valley and into the Consumer Web tech category.
In the long long ago, I was a co-founder for an educational software startup called ScholarPRO that raised a ton of money and then spectacularly blew up (in the bad way). Before it exploded like the Death Star, I went through five tech incubators (yes, five): Tech Stars, Excelerate Labs, MassChallenge, Babson Venture Program, and Sparkseed.
Hope you enjoy my courses!

It looks a bit outdated now in 2021. Even the webs the instructor shows look very old, like google, and some don't exist anymore. Also the instructor makes references to jump to some next lesson like wireframing that is not included in this course. Globally it is informative, although some sections seem just a bit narrowed down for the example, and not enough generic out of a mobile app scope.

Excelente curso.

Evan did a great job in taking you in this journey of idea validation. He shows how to do it in a step by step approach using more than an option. Although I found out there are some overlaps with some of Evan's other courses, however, this one is more focused on idea validation topic and how to get it done right. I already bought couple of Evan's courses and I expect them to be great as this one. In short, Highly recommended!

The course has a lot of excellent information, but some parts are outdated and need to be updated. For example, Adwords and Facebook interface shown is far different today, and input fields are not the same as when this lecture was made. However, I heard about many things I did not know about before taking this course.
By Gene Baldassari on 1/27/2019
Good, useful information. Recommend. However, I suggest that you enroll in Evan's "Idea To MVP" course instead of this one. At the end of this course, he says that this course is a subset of his "idea to MVP course". This detail should have been shown in the course description because I have halfway completed the other course. The techniques described in this course are not foolproof but they are important to keep in your bag of tricks. This course is based on digital marketing. If your product idea has better off-line potential, the tools in this course might not have any value. Even so, everyone should be fully aware of the digital alternative and use the experiments in this course to test your business potential for digital. Some of the details are outdated, although the course description indicates that it was recently updated. The course does not end properly. It might be a UDEMY problem. There is no way to get to the final two items - it puts you into a continuous loop of frustration at the end. Even with all this, I recommend this or the other course mentioned because it teaches a valuable philosophy that should be known by everyone in business.

If you've been through books on the topic (Running Lean, Nail It & Scale It) or know something about landing pages, it might seem somewhat basic. Though targeted for newbies, it's still quite valuable because it provided simpler, faster, and practical ways to validate--all inexpensively, which helps me take action! As I watched the videos sequentially, they seemed a bit disorganized as I was taking notes because the videos don't display the "section titles," nor was I aware when we moved to a new section. Only when I bounce back to the Udemy dashboard can I see how the course is organized by section.

Really good clear descriptions and explainations. Maybe some visuals would enhance the first couple of lectures? Some of the videos don’t link up or follow on well, you refer to content that isn’t there “in the next video, I’ll show you wire framing” and that video just isn’t there. I thought there was way too much time on SEM getting leads and advertising and not so much on the theory and practise of idea validation. The end was a bit of an anticlimax...kept looking for the next video and realised I was actually at the end? Go figure.

Evan really took time and broke down every aspect of taking a project from idea/inception to validation. The only part I objected to was course format, as in order of lectures. He discussed getting paid customers before we learned to actually pay for advertising (small budget) and actually test the idea.
By James Patterson on 10/29/2015
This course content is very thorough and easy to follow. This course taught me how to quickly (and cheaply) see if my idea for a product or service would be something a customer is interested in. This will save me a lot of time, money and effort. The production quality is very high. It looks like the instructor set up a video studio in his company. There are no distractions in the background. Occasionally the audio volume varied slightly between video clips but that did not take away from the course. The instructor Evan is very knowledgeable, experienced, interesting and engaging. He also offered many resources to dig deeper and to do your idea validation for a very low cost. This is extremely valuable if you are an entrepreneur or business owner. You can repeat the procedure over and over again until you find a product/service customer show they are interested, before you actually build the product/service.

Good Content, but VERY distracting arm waving. I ended up using the course like a Podcast, and surfed other sites not watching the talking head sections. Slide and screen capture areas were good. Last 3rd of the course is missing. He promises to walk us through the teaching with a 'live' example, I think that became another paid course; disappointing.
