SEM, formerly known as Log & Event Manager, is delivered as a virtual appliance. The course explores its role in applying security policies and safeguards and using log data for forensic investigation and troubleshooting.

Topics include log collection and management, normalization and correlation, log forwarding, and reporting. The lessons also cover file integrity monitoring, user activity monitoring, USB detection and prevention, threat intelligence, and active response. video and content are fine, but the voice is horrendous, stop using cheap ai voices, they are god awful.

The course has good information SEM/syslog. LABS shown in the tutorial are helpful but please remove the background music. All the configurations shown in the lab are useful in understanding the core concepts.

The instructor knows his stuff, IT wise. I think he just needs to take more time to organize his lectures. There is a LOT of time spent setting up the lab and less time explaining SEM tool itself. Also, as the lab are being setup the instructor might want to think about editing out the loading/download times from the videos. And finally, I would recommend talking less about troubleshooting the lab itself, and more how SEM might help to see the issues in the lab. I say all of this to help with course improvements (no one is perfect), and less to bash the course instructor themselves.

over 20 lessons in and STILL WAITING for the SEM tutorial to start - everything up to this point has been lab setup. Couldn't this have been an appendix/option at the end - there are those of us looking at using this in an existing environment and not just playing with it in a lab...

Fantastic! I want say I had problems implementing Solarwinds. It never worked for me. I will recommend this course and this instructor to my company. The instructor was very clear in his explanations and I didn't have no problem understanding him.
