Instructional Design Pro (Part 3): No Beginners Allowed! (Udemy.com)
Write Golden Training Curriculum that’s Easier to Learn and More Enjoyable to Teach

Our take
Based on the ratings of 534 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in June 2020. No course pays to be reviewed.
Instructional Design Pro Part 3 is the production stage of Jason Teteak's three part series, the part where an outline turns into facilitator guides, learner workbooks, slides, evaluation surveys, and marketing materials. At 6.3 hours across 26 lectures, the title says it plainly: this isn't for beginners. One reviewer, an experienced instructional designer, says the course fits people who already have classroom or curriculum writing experience, not someone starting from zero.
Reviewers like Jason's delivery, calling him engaging and knowledgeable, and several say the step by step structure for building guides and workbooks was worth the time even for experienced trainers. The recurring complaint is format: the course is a recording of a live in-person class, and reviewers who wanted a self-paced online lesson found the sound rough and the camera work distracting. One reviewer also felt a chunk of this part leans on copy-and-paste from Parts 1 and 2, with survey and marketing content the only real additions.
The course sits at 4.7 stars across 534 reviews, and most of the pushback lands at three stars rather than outright pans, so the material clearly helps people who stick with it. It was last updated in 2020, which shows in a few spots, but the core advice on guides and workbooks holds up. Best treated as the finishing piece for people who already bought Parts 1 and 2, not a standalone course for someone new to instructional design.
Pros
- Jason Teteak's step-by-step guidance on facilitator guides and workbooks
- Covers the full production pipeline: guides, workbooks, slides, surveys, marketing
- Rated 4.7 across 534 reviews, with most complaints landing at 3 stars, not lower
- Reviewers call Jason an engaging and knowledgeable presenter
Cons
- Filmed from a live in-person class, so sound and camera work feel rough for online viewing
- One reviewer says a chunk of it leans on copy-paste from Parts 1 and 2
- Not updated since 2020 and not really built for instructional design beginners
This is a very in-depth course and I would highly recommend it to someone in or just starting in Instructional Design. Jason does a wonderful job of giving step-by-step guidance on just how to do every aspect of the job.
Labeled All Levels, but really suits people who finished Parts 1 and 2 or already write curriculum

Ordinary instructional designers just don’t get it….
There was a time when having expertise was enough, but today (if you actually want to get engagement, learning and retention), you need to do more.
So how do you do it?
How do you build “curriculum” that turns instructional design into engagement, learning and retention?
Fortunately, that’s what you’re about to learn.
FACT: Businesses Need Instructional Designers
(…Who Actually Know What They’re Doing)
I’m not going to sell you on the importance of instructional design.
If you’re here, you already know it’s an essential aspect of any training strategy, because instructional design:
Increases ROI and efficiency…
Engages and nurtures both employees and trainers by providing ACTUAL results, and most importantly it…
Enables your training to be engaging (and stick consistently!)
In other words, instructional design increases ROI and efficiency and lowers employee turnover: The lifeblood of any business.
So that’s why businesses need instructional designers.
There’s just one problem: Most so called “instructional designers” don’t know what they’re doing.
That’s where you come in.
As an Instructional Design Specialist, you are uniquely qualified to help business convert training into engagement, learning and retention.

Jason Teteak makes it so easy and simple to understand and imply in one's profession, I am just elated that now I am ready to cater to the needs of many by designing trainings, curriculums and most importantly, be relevant to the profession more. Although I am certified with this course now, I humbly accept, that this has been an amazing part of my learning journey, which still continues. I hope to implement everything that I learnt and also build on it.

All three of the courses as a whole are thorough and interesting. As an experienced teacher, I appreciated seeing how the strategies & tools I currently use fit into an overall picture, and I learned a bunch of new tools I really like. This class was a bit dense at points, and sort of dragged on, but ultimately my overall feedback is that they are top quality and very very useful.

Jason is an engaging and knowledgeable presenter. There is a lot of detail in this course, but the ideas are great. I'm eager to see how I can bring what I've learned to my day-to-day work. The course is focused on instructional design for in-person instructor-led training. Because I primarily design eLearning courses, I'll have to tweak some of it to fit what I'm doing. I'm looking forward to seeing the results.

I loved this course! I'm also glad that Jason made it clear that this isn't something that will happen overnight, and along with the Train The Trainer Bootcamp, there are so many things to add - it's going to take a long time to implement them all! I only took off the half star for minor things like I didn't really get to know the participants by name, and sometimes Jason would address them as if we all remembered what type of learner they were. Also, I wish that there was a "already filled out" version of the handbook (I don't really have the resources to print it out, and editing PDF's to add notes is a pain.) I'm in the middle of my Master's for ID, and it's clear that this course isn't just "Some guy who has his own theories" - much of it is based in sound ID theory, and I really like how Jason has boiled it down to the salient parts as well as how to actually apply the theory (I find that my courses spend way too much time citing this person or that and talking about theory but not enough of HOW TO USE IT IN THE REAL WORLD, which Jason does!)

Very good course. Well structured and very useful. will definitely be referencing back to the videos and the workbook in the future. Main reason why I marked it down is that I dont think its right that this course is split up into 3 and that you have to pay 3 times just to do the complete course. Feels a little dishonest/sly. Would rather just have it as one long course.
By Rebeca Bender on 7/18/2019
As a training manager this was a tool that finally showed HOW to get to what I want to do. I made the case and had all my team purchase the courses to build their skills and development. While the training audience in the room is healthcare (not my field) the practical steps and applications can be used anywhere. I will definitely be using this course for many years and have all my new trainers go through it.

Jason is a great presenter and incredibly organized which makes his method very procedural and well-thought, out enabling anyone to understand and create "golden" curriculum. I am using his ideas to create online classes for higher education and the methodology Jason presents has shortened my turnaround time by 60%. What a great three part course. I'm sure I will be referring back to it for many years to come.
By Loris James on 4/12/2018
By the time you get to part three this class has provided so much information it’s kind of an advanced Boot Camp. Just about everything you could want to know is included in the three parts of this course. This last part puts it all together providing the final instructions on how to put your class together with templates and valued insight from this highly experienced trainer. Be prepared to interact as you take this course.

WOW! Jason Teteak.......YOU ROCK!!! I have spent the past week going through all 3 levels of your training and I have to say, "you put your heart into this!" I'm so glad I picked up this course. It was so informational and you've left nothing out! I feel so much more confident about my course writing after taking this class. The workbooks are priceless and I will definitely be incorporating the CDS Spreadsheet into my future designs! THANK YOU for creating this! You are AWESOME!!!

I have taken numerous courses by Jason Teteak on Udemy during the past few years. This course [Instructional Design Pro "Scribe"--Parts 1, 2 and 3] puts everything together on instructional design into one course. As he describes it, it is the "secret sauce" of every course and presentation he makes. Although the focus is on live presentations, much of it can be applied or adapted to creating online courses. The Workbook, Spreadsheet and the Workbook Template (in part 3) are worth the price of the course just by themselves.
