IMPORTANT: In Microsoft nomenclature there are two portals: Classic Portal and Azure Portal. The Classic one is being phased out. This Course is entirely based on Azure Portal, which is the newest version.
Additionally, this course is NOT for any of the current Microsoft Certifications.
In this course we are going to cover Azure SQL Database. Azure SQL Database is Microsoft’s cloud database service.
Based on SQL Server database technology and built on Microsoft’s Windows Azure cloud computing platform, SQL Azure enables organizations to store relational data in the cloud and quickly scale the size of their databases up or down as business needs change. Data is hosted, managed and provisioned in Microsoft data centers.
This course takes a hands on, real world approach to working with Azure SQL Databases. While there is some theory most the course will be focused on working with the latest version of Windows Azure.
This course will give YOU the foundation to become more comfortable working inside Windows Azure.
As a SQL Server Consultant I can tell you that many of my customers are MOVING to Windows Azure’s various cloud offerings.
As a matter of fact, 30% of Fortune 500 companies use Azure at some level.
There are still many LIMITATIONS and nuances to moving SQL Server Databases to the cloud. We will discuss many of these in the course.
The code, applications, and TOOLS (like Management Studio) you already use today with your existing databases can be used with Azure SQL Database. Windows Azure patches the database software and backs up your database, storing the backups for a user-defined retention period and enabling point-in-time recovery.

I've worked with databases for over two decades. I've worked for or consulted with over 50 different companies as a full time employee or consultant. Fortune 500 as well as several small to mid-size companies. Some include: Georgia Pacific, SunTrust, Reed Construction Data, Building Systems Design, NetCertainty, The Home Shopping Network, SwingVote, Atlanta Gas and Light and Northrup Grumman.
Over the last five years I've transitioned to the exciting world of applied machine learning. I'm excited to show you what I've learned and help you move into one of the single most important fields in this space.
Experience, education and passion
I learn something almost every day. I work with insanely smart people. I'm a voracious learner of all things SQL Server and I'm passionate about sharing what I've learned. My area of concentration is performance tuning. SQL Server is like an exotic sports car, it will run just fine in anyone's hands but put it in the hands of skilled tuner and it will perform like a race car.

The course gives you a nice introduction to creating databases in azure and connecting to these from SSMS. It also explains at a high level some the new technologies available in Azure SQL Database. However, the course is now dated as the Azure portal has been updated, and at times it is difficult, but not impossible, to follow.

The course is a great jump start to Azure technology related to SQL. It's short, clear and right to the point w/o extra talking. Seems though that course is slightly outdated as my newly opened Azure account differs from the one instructor demonstrates.

The description of the course is misleading, i took this course as it mentioned that the how to become Azure SQL database architect but the course talk about very basic DBA type of tasks and just definition of the terms. Its good for beginners

The course strategy being developed well to understand the Azure-SQL topic at a beginner level and if you are totally unknown to subject. However, It could be on advanced side by explaining the real world challenges when we migrate the on-premise DB to Cloud with do and don'ts. Also, there may be many things that will not end up as shown in simple straight way in this course for migration activities of on-premise DB to cloud where different nomenclature, features, datatypes etc. have been used so, it will be very helpful if the instructor can include those comparisons and differences. Otherwise, thumbs up!!!

The course is a great starting point for current SQL Server DBAs to get a quick overview of the facets that make up Azure SQL Database. And a great place primer if you are working towards 70-473 certification - not overwhelming, with just the right amount of material.

The instructor provides to the point instructions for anyone new to azure sql database to get started without feeling overwhelmed. He walks through different area of the portal in a simple fashion and gives a good revision with a nice summary. (Note : This online course is purely for anyone new to Azure and would like to get quickly started on Azure sql database). Thank you!

A good general overview of features. There were some options and features that were skipped over and I wish we could have covered those. An example on one dialog was "webhooks" - cannot remember the page but I'll have to go research that term, etc. Also, some of the portal features have changed since this recording, like "add new tile" - I could not find that anywhere.

I was happy to see the version of Azure in the video was very close to the latest version on Microsoft's site. This made it easy to follow along. What differences there were was easy to figure out so the course content was very relevant. The course gave me the incentive to get started with moving some personal and work-related databases to the cloud. Found a lot of motivation in this course!

Instructor spent too much time explaining simple features. This course is supposed to be an intermediate course designed for people that know how to click through simple dashboards. Also many of the dashboard items and links have changed on azure. I.e. "Data + Storage" is now "Databases" on the sidebar
