This course isn't bad, but it could be better. It's quite short, and the topics are discussed rather superficially. Since English isn't my first language, I sometimes had significant problems understanding what the author was saying at a given moment due to their specific accent

Mr. Mike I must say you are the best teacher in SQL server DBA. your courses are so precise and give the write knowledge needed. no howering around the problem with lot of theory. I must say this course had some theory, but this theory is very necessary to know all the important parts of query execution plans.thanks again Mr. Mike. I am a SQL DBA for few years now but taking your course made me learn so many new things which i had no idea. you are a great teacher and your way of teaching is very enthusiatic. you teach in a way as you are also a colleague student and we are working together on an assignment. it has been an amazing journey taking your course. Der Kurs taucht nicht besonders tief in die Materie ein. Die einzelnen Lektionen sind sehr sehr kurz und haben fast alle ein abruptes Ende. Es gibt kostenlose Youtube Videos die dieses Thema mit deutlich mehr Tiefgang beleuchten. Das was erklärt wurde war verständlich, aber insgesamt ist der Kurs wirklich sehr sparsam aufgebaut und es gibt zwischen den Kapiteln zuviel Text zum Lesen. Von einem Video-Kurs erwarte ich mir Videos und keinen Text.

Very detailed explanation of execution plans and how queries can be optimized. I finally understand what's happening and how to read the execution plan and, more importantly, what to do about it. Only complaint is that there were instances where the slides were out of focus (quickly corrected) and where the presenter talked a little too fast and I had to rewind and watch again. Otherwise, great course.

Editing/upgrading my original rating because I believe the creator deserves some credit for creating a SQL lesson that many people, like myself, want to understand and are looking for detailed instructions. It's the only course I found that addressed this topic in SQL Server, so I appreciate that.

Excellent course, that is what I was looking for. Very good course for understanding the execution plans. This will greatly help in optimising the queries. I would love to join more advanced course on this subject.

this was an excellent course covering the basics. the pace is good but the detail needs some improvement. i have to slow down or stop the video and find what the instructor was looking at. maybe it comes with more practice. it would be nice if the instructor had some scripts that would "dirty-up" the database some so we could practice looking at what the instructor was pointing out. overall an excellent course and i plan on repeating it a few times until i am more proficient. thank you.

I am enjoying how the instructor is starting from the beginning to break down how the query optimizer functions and all of the associated processes. I really like this approach because since this is the first time in the course I have been asked to rate the course, I can only assume he is going to build on this foundation of knowledge so when execution plans are created and discussed during the remainder of the course, I will have the knowledge he started the course with to help make learning easier as the course progresses. Especially on a topic I have worked with for a couple of years but the "light bulb" just hasn't quite gone off. It's more like a very "dim bulb" before starting this course. I will say that already, I can see the way Mike has organized the course it is helping me to organize my thought process to the point I am hoping when I complete the course, the "light bulb" will finally have gone off and bright! Again, this is the first time I have been asked to rate this course which was immediately after the exercise Mike had us do to where he asked various questions regarding the material we had covered up to that point and it was up to me to provide the answer. After a period of time, Mike would flash the answer on the screen so I could check to see if I answered correctly or if I couldn't remember, I made sure I took notes on every question and the answer that went with each question. I'll have to say, this is the first course that interested me enough to where I am actually taking notes! I believe that has to do with the way Mike is teaching the course. When asked to rate this course from this point going forward, I plan on skipping until the very end of the course. I will then compare how I rated the course and my comments from the beginning to see whether or not my theory about Mike's process for teaching this course made the difference. Actually, what I'm really looking for is this the course that will finally make that "light bulb" go off over my head and it was so profound I can say in the future it was this course than changed it all for me when it comes to performance tuning and query plans. So far, very good, Mike.

This is an introductory course and wont make you an overnight expert, but it will give you a headstart. It isnt for beginners in SQL Server and you need a reasonable level of understanding of querying SQL Server, JOIN, GROUP BY , ORDER BY etc before beginning this course. You also need to understand the basics of SQL Server indexes. Those caveats aside, I feel I have improved my understanding of query tuning and can now go off and apply what I have learned. Another good course for really very little money.

Nicely put together and presented. I appreciate the off-the-cuff comments when something doesn't quite go as planned as in demonstrating the Maintenance plan wizard for instance, "Well I didn't want to do that anyway", as there is a far better way of doing it.
