Course Description

Truly effective database design depends on having a coherent data model to work from. This course will help you learn the theory and process of creating data models suitable for everything from small business to enterprise and data center environments. Michael Blaha will teach you how to plan and construct data models, as well as build upon those models through an actual database. You will start by learning about the data modeling development process, then jump into basic and advanced data modeling. From there, Michael will teach you how to create a UML data model, including finding classes, adding attributes, and simplifying the model. This video tutorial also covers how to translate a UML data model into an IE data model, model quality, the different kinds of data models, and database design. You will also learn how to create an SQL server database, an MS-Access database, and develop frameworks. Finally, Michael will teach you about data modeling patterns and database reverse engineering. Once you have completed this computer based training course, you will be fully capable of creating your own data models. Who this course is for:
developers and IT professionals who want a thorough understanding of formal data concepts and models as they relate to database design.

Great explanations.

Excellent course, as a seasoned Data architect/ data modeler was a very good refresher on our discipline and practice

overall okay, but skips some steps that i searched for online to fill in the gap. The tone of voice could use a bit more variation as it is very flat and sometimes it is not easy to keep the attention up.

If you have not the Software, you can not use the provided documents. All of the examples are from an very outdated Version of the programs. The course is more like a tech demo than something else, with Little to none background explanaition why he does something. Could have spent my money better than this.
Also very monotone and boring talker, that make me want to sleep instead of hearing his lessons.

so far nothing I could not have read in a book or manual

I think this was a very good overview. I think it would have been nice to have more examples and focus a little more on when to use association classes, when a FK belongs in one class vs another and how to distinguish between Enterprise DM and an MDM.
