Master Spreadsheet Automation - Google Sheets Masterclass (Udemy.com)

I wrote my first code in 1968. I grew up and evolved with IT in the corporate world where data management is vital. Google hasn't been great at that, so I never worked with it. I am now retired and living in a 'senior housing cooperative' and am hoping to use my IT experience and skills to work with other coop Members to build a Google site for Members to share information. Google is probably an ideal platform for that use., but learning the Google style is a bit of a challenge. I specifically signed up for this class because I want to be able to create/update a calendar from a sheet. I have found code to do that. It's basically js which I have used for years, but I struggle with the parts that are unique to Google, and I need to learn debugging techniques. I am hopeful that this class might actually address those considerations.

I've been using chatGPT to create scripts with no programming background for more than a year now. This course is helping with foundation so clearly, now i can read the scripts even better and solve logical problems better whilst getting solutions from chat gpt.

This course is a awesome course, lots of contents and well-explained. I learned a lot from it and it is exactly what I am looking for for building an app by simply using Google Sheets.

The content is applicable and relevant, and the proposed problems/solutions are structured. Most of the content is a series of cool small "here is what you can do with this x.y function" which is quite nice. Maybe my expectations were skewed or I did not read the content properly before buying it because I didn't see any exercise or challenges for practice; to make you think about problem-solving using what was explained throughout the training.

When doing my research, there are not many Apps Scripts courses on Udemy and most have a JavaScript pre-requisite. Overall I enjoyed this course as it really fit a need. Pros: 1) No real pre-requisite for this course (obviously people who take this course have used Google Sheets). It's best to have some basic programming experience, but the lecturer has a set of intro lessons to refresh your basic skills. Huge plus if you have worked with Excel VBA Macros. 2) Lecturer can be understood clearly. Maybe a little fast for non-native speakers 3) Lots of examples. Again the course fills a big need for people who want Excel-like VBA macros on Google Sheets. Cons: 1) A lot of the lessons (especially the examples) are really standalone lessons with no relationship with prior lessons. The course is not a A-to-Z type course where you go from the basics to "advanced" level. It's not a tightly packaged course like you take in college or a more formal setting 2) There's a quite a bit of "wasted time" where the lecturer will correct his coding as he's recording himself typing code on the spot. This could be fine if you want to know the mind of the lecturer debugging his code, but not so great if you're expecting your code to work the first time. 3) The course is an "Infomercial" for the lecturer's full-time business as he markets his website subscription service. I absolutely get it... Maybe the revenue from Udemy courses won't make the lecturer much money (especially when Udemy has sales), so he markets his ancillary business. But it could turn off some students especially how often he mentions his website.

This was a great course to onboard me into App Scripts. This is a good course for those who have mastered google sheets and now ready to embark in App script to fully maximize Google sheets and/or Google's eco-system
