Our take

Based on the ratings of 12,122 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in August 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.

Ranga Karanam's in28Minutes course runs about 42 hours across 462 lectures and 27 sections. It starts with Maven and a small Java gaming app to explain loose coupling, then moves through Spring Boot, JPA and Hibernate, and a very long REST API section. After that come AOP, Gradle, Docker, JUnit and Mockito, a React Todo app, Spring Security, and a short AWS compute finish. It assumes some Java but zero Spring.

Praise centers on the teaching. Reviewers call Ranga patient and step by step, and one likes that he explains why a concept exists and how it developed. A reader with no Spring background says the course explains the framework very well, and another says it works with the latest Spring Boot. The complaints are consistent too. Lower-star reviewers find it slow, wordy and repetitive, say some examples are weak, and one finds the spoken English and loose outline hard to follow. A Flutter user skipped the React part, and one backend developer says it does not cover everything.

Most of the sample is happy. The course holds 4.5 stars across 12,122 reviews, and just over 300 of them gave one or two stars. The AWS sections are the soft spot, with one reviewer saying some workflows have gone legacy, though the course was last updated in August 2026. We'd recommend it to newcomers who want a slow, thorough walk through the whole Spring stack. Experienced developers will probably want something tighter.

Best forBeginner Java programmers who want Spring, a React full stack project, Docker and AWS from one patient, slow-paced teacher.
Skip it ifYou already do backend work and want depth or speed. Reviewers call it slow, repetitive and light on detail.

Pros

  • Patient, step by step teaching that explains why Spring concepts exist
  • Covers a lot in one place: REST API, JPA, Security, Docker, React and AWS
  • Updated August 2026, and a reviewer confirms it works with the latest Spring Boot
  • Needs no Spring experience, and beginners say the basics are easy to follow

Cons

  • Low-star reviewers call it slow, wordy and repetitive, even for working developers
  • AWS sections are reported as partly legacy, so deployment steps may not match the videos
  • Backend-experienced reviewers say it is shallow and needs docs on the side
I didn't have any experience in working with java spring framework and this course explains the concept of this framework very well.

Listed as All Levels, but it needs some Java and is really built for beginners new to Spring.

Great learning experience! Every concept is explained wonderfully.. follows a structured approach of teaching and a change of thought --' why a particular concept was introduced', 'what are its developments and latest features'. Must have for all spring enthusiasts and professionals.

By John Visser on 7/25/2026

The content itself is generally good and covers the material adequately. However, the instructor’s spoken English can be difficult to follow at times. There are frequent grammatical inaccuracies (for example, phrases such as "more simpler") and imprecise word choices that can make explanations less clear, particularly for listeners who are not paying close attention. The course organization could also be improved. Rather than following a clearly structured outline, topics often progress in a sequential, exploratory manner. As a result, the relationships between concepts are not always obvious. For example, some of the box-flow diagrams move from one point to a subpoint without clearly conveying the hierarchy or overall structure of the material. In addition, the course makes frequent use of superlatives and enthusiastic praise, with terms such as "cool," "awesome," and repeated congratulations appearing throughout the lectures. There is also a significant amount of positive affirmation directed at learners. While encouragement can be helpful, it is sometimes overused and may come across as patronizing. For example, comments such as "I'm sure you are having a great experience" can feel presumptive rather than supportive.

This course opened the door to become a full stack developer. I feel more comfortable with Spring Boot, Spring Framework and React with each session. I am understanding complex frameworks in weeks, wich would have taken me months to understand with only books and self learning.

By Ashish kumar on 5/3/2026

He is an excellent teacher. I’ve completed about 15% of the course so far, and it has already been a wonderful learning experience. I’m really enjoying learning Spring through these sessions.

By TECNOMOTUM TEC111115SY4 on 2/22/2026

By Amal Johnson on 2/10/2026

I have tried another springboot course on udemy and did not like that much, Ranga here explains really well and his lessons are much more engaging, I'd recommend this course to both newbies and experienced devs.

By Hardik Prajapati on 2/2/2026

Course is good for beginners but someone who has worked into backend development, I would suggest learn additional things from docs and other sources. as this does not teach everything from backend perspective.

By Brian Payton on 1/22/2026

Long and comprehensive. (It took me months to complete). I found it useful that the course covers not only the Spring framework, but full-stack development with JS and React for the front-end as well. The refresher on modern Java is also good.

By Poojita Tadigadapa on 12/3/2025

This is a great course to understand Spring , Spring boot along with other topics including REST API , Docker, Junit, Cloud etc. Examples are easy and practical approach makes it better to remember and understand the concepts. I feel confident building and deploying full-stack applications now. There needs to be an update in the Dockerfile FROM command as openjdk seems to be deprecated now and was not working when I ran the file.

By Manjunatha Talanki Nagaraj on 11/1/2025

Every simple aspect of the framework is very well taken care of with simple and clear narration. For a beginner, this is very very important. Thanks a lot, Ranga !! I hope the subsequent classes as well goes with same detailing. Loving it..!
