Course Description
One of the best kept secrets in agriculture is that microbes carry out every function growers rely on chemicals to provide. When you have adequate microbial diversity and density in your soil microbial community, your need for costly inputs can be reduced or eliminated.
Whether you are an urban gardener, growing food in containers on your balcony, a farmer planting hundreds of acres for commercial markets, a landscaper managing city parks, or anyone else who works with plants and soils, learning to recognize microbial indicators of soil health can help you grow better quality plants with higher yields and fewer inputs.
Microbial Analysis for Growers can help you transform your growing practices. Learn:
When and why a do it yourself soil test for microbes makes sense.
How to choose a microscope suitable for soil testing.
How to classify and identify important soil microbes by general morphotypes.
How to use your results to help you grow high quality crops.
How to corroborate your qualitative, visual results with qualitative soil respiration measurements.
Note: All the equipment needed to conduct soil biology testing will be described within. It is not necessary to have the equipment on hand to take the course.

It was very informative and to the point. A good place to begin with for those wanting to understand soil microbiology. There are also many additional resources and links which are helpful.

Great insight into the microbiology of our soil. I feel privileged to be able to learn such important information at a time when it is so relevant. The teacher and materials are presented in easy to understand and implement fashion. I recommend this course to anyone looking to understand our soil more. Thank you for putting this course together for us!

I came to the course from an organic farming background and having spent 2 years in the Albrecht mineralization area of study. This was a good background for this course, learning about the "critters" in the soil, their role, adn why mineralization alone is not enough.

This is a course that every grower needs to take. Whether your into backyard gardens or full scale agriculture, your soils want you to take this course immediately... Thank you Dr. Mary Lucero. You’ve made the world a better place...for all of life.

This is an excellent course. A few of the test answers were guess work because the answers gave information that was not really covered. This is a course that I will go through at least 2 more times and review often. One math error in figuring averages on the report sheet, should have been 5.4 but was recorded as 5.8 I believe. Great Instructor.

This stuff is amazing! Very very helpful for individuals who are trying to start up a self-sustainable garden up to mass producing farms. I'll definitely recommend it! Thank you Mary for providing this course which has unveiled the importance of microbes in soil to provide nutrient dense food and healthy plants that you've observed and researched for many many decades.

I really enjoyed this course and learned a lot about maintaining soil life. There were some little tips and tricks which would probably have been missed from internet research and it was presented in a way that was scientific but also easily digested. It's exciting to see the results from running these tests and making amendments over the years. It has inspired me and I'd love to see more from Mary Lucero.

Oh yes, many concepts that I've had forgotten over the years back to college. I feel that I can do more to help growers with the already learned concepts, I know that de following chapters are going to enhance that even more. On terminating the course, it´s an eye opener that will drive more actions in the future to manage the soil biology better and start balancing the fertilizer used. I will use it definitely in my business, to spread a better future.

Really enjoying this course so far I have been self learning about the soil food web and learned some new things just from the first video can’t wait to get deeper into the course. Definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants to up there gardening game.

It's a good intro into use of a microscope. The preparing of the sample for the microscope was totally new and is very helpful when I examine my samples under the microscope. The soil preparation is different than what I did for soil organic matter analysis and soil fertility samples. This was a fantastic. The lectures were very informative and excellently presented. I am excited about improving my soil and growing better crops by increasing the microbial diversity and density in my soils at the same time decreasing fertilizer applications.
