Gain Either MCSA or MCSE Status, This Course Covers Everything You Need To Pass The Microsoft Exam 70-411

Our take

Based on the ratings of 617 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in May 2014. No course pays to be reviewed.

This is the middle course in a three-part series covering Microsoft's old MCSA Windows Server 2012 track, sitting between the 70-410 and 70-412 exams. Infinite Skills instructor John walks through deploying Windows Server 2012 R2, file services, DNS, Active Directory Domain Services, Group Policy, routing and remote access, and monitoring, all in 96 lectures and about 8.8 hours. It is built for people who already know they are chasing the 70-411 certification, not general beginners.

Reviewers generally like the pace. Several call John easy to follow and say he expands on points instead of just reading bullet slides, and more than one review calls him knowledgeable. The rating breakdown backs that up, with 306 five star and 211 four star ratings out of 617. The complaints that show up are about depth and support: one reviewer wanted the course twice as long to feel exam ready, one flagged missing audio in a few sections and video that would not play, and another said the Q&A area has unanswered student questions. One low review says the instructor assumes too much prior knowledge.

At 8.8 hours for a 96 lecture exam-prep course, it is a reasonable time investment next to the other two courses in this series, and reviewers treat it as a solid primer rather than the only resource needed. The course has not been updated since 2014, so expect the R2 era interface and some outdated screens. Worth it as a structured refresher before the exam if paired with practice tests, less so as a from-scratch introduction to Windows Server administration.

Best forIT pros studying for the MCSA/MCSE 70-411 exam who want a guided pass through the objectives.
Skip it ifYou want hands-on labs or coding exercises rather than lecture-style demos.

Pros

  • Covers the full range of 70-411 exam topics from DNS to Group Policy to NPS
  • Instructor gets consistent praise for clear, methodical explanations
  • Sections are broken into short lectures that are easy to sit through
  • Strong rating history with 517 of 617 reviews at 4 or 5 stars

Cons

  • Not updated since 2014, so some screens and workflow steps show their age
  • One reviewer reported missing audio and broken video in specific sections
  • Student Q&A area reportedly has unanswered questions, so support is thin
the teacher is easy to listen to and takes a slow methodical approach to teaching. as such, he expands on the dot points provided giving extra detail and giving a full overview of the course

Listed as All Levels, but really suits IT staff already comfortable with Windows Server basics and studying for a specific exam.

I found this course to be everything I expected it to be, and I believe it will be invaluable in helping me in passing my exam. I will also be using practice exams, Microsoft Technet and other resources, and not relying only on this course to pass. John makes it clear in the closing thoughts that it is necessary to actually perform the tasks he's taught in this course. Hearing, seeing, and then doing is critical to exam success. It is clear to me that John is an expert in Microsoft Server technologies, and excels at teaching the concepts, and how-to of these technologies. My congratulations, and thanks to John!

it was great overview of the exam and i can appreciate how much work it would be to put this all together. seems like all the points were covered however i really wanted it to be twice as long because i feel like i'm going to need more study outside of this course now.

By Eric Kesselring on 11/29/2017

This is better than CBT and Pluralsight and Lynda.com. I like to finish a video set knowing I retained things and can answer questions from practice tests. I'm going to check for more content as my neck is on the line Tuesday. I also did read the MOAC book. I'm beginning to see a pattern in my weak powershell knowledge and Network policy. I'd hate to fail out over a deprecated feature or two. Probably the strongeswt advice I can give is, unless you can study at home unbothered, study only at school.

A good course on Win2012 overall setup and operation. Information is a little dated with the newer releases of windows on the horizon but still very useful in my opinion. Instructor was easy to listen to and subject broken down into easy to work with pieces. I course worth taking.

By David Rice on 10/12/2016

John showed and shared extensive knowledge about the technologies used. It has been super beneficial following along as he demonstrated almost every single aspect of the current 70-411 exam (even though this course is a few years old).

By Tom Mekeel on 4/16/2016

Very good overview of Windows Server built in tools, and a lot of great tips and tricks for managing your infrastructure. I wish more time was spent on Powershell, but this course is packed full of information that you can use every day.

By Arthur Mandel on 2/15/2016

I found this to be an excellent resource, if you don't lab everything out though, you will not pass. I labbed everything extensively and took extremely thorough notes. I passed the 70-411 with a 788

This is another great course! I took the 70-410 as a refresher and then passed the exam. I'm doing this course as a means to capture any areas I'm not familiar with and I intend to take the exam as well. I also got his 70-412 course, and I'm glad I did. As long as you understand the material and the technology, you should be able to pass the exam. Cheers!

By Michael J. Thomas on 9/23/2015

This course was well worth the money. I like the direct and to the point method of teaching. I like the format and course layout as I am able to go through those areas that I struggle with and gain a better understanding. The only other thing I would like to see in this course would be more exam tips. I highly recommend this course as you should include it into your study routine and preparation for the exam 70-411 Administering Windows Server 2012 R2.

By James Baldwin on 1/22/2015

Great material! Very impressed with instructor and his credentials. I took the 70-410 and passed. I am preparing to take the 70-411 exam and I am using John's Exam 70-411 video course. I have notice it covered many of the questions I had on the 70-410 exam better than the 70-410 video course.
