Course Description

Hi, welcome to this course on building a production ready, detailed Django REST API, running on a web server powered by NGINX, on a custom domain name and served securely over HTTPS with SSL Certificates from Letsencrypt.

This course is NOT for absolute beginners.

We shall achieve our goal by leveraging tools such as Docker, Celery, Redis, Flower, Nginx, Nginx Proxy manager, Portainer, shell scripts and more.

This course is targeted at those with AT LEAST 6 months of web development experience, but  more is better. Before beginning, you should have some familiarity with the following concepts, in as much as I will try to explain everything.

The concepts we shall cover include:

  • Docker and running multiple containers

  • 2 Securing a Django REST API with HTTPS using SSL Certificates

  • REST APIs with Django and Django Rest Framework

  • Class Based Views.

  • Shell Scripting.

  • Asynchronous tasks with Celery and Redis

  • Asynchronous tasks monitoring with Flower

  • Introduction to API testing with Pytest using factories and fixtures.

  • Token based authentication

  • Working with email in development with Mailhog and in production with Mailgun

  • Python Test coverage

  • Serving static and media files with NGINX and whitenoise

  • Makefiles and how they make working with Docker easier.

All this shall be covered step by step, so that you can leverage the skills you learn in this course to build even bigger and better applications at scale.

I recommend this course for both beginners and intermediate Django developers. The main project is very good for beginners. Especially if you have up to 1 year of experience. You will learn a lot from it. You should note, though, that as for the Docker and shell script part, I honestly do not think that 1 year of Django experience is enough for you to fully understand what is happening there, and that might be demotivation. You will need to have worked with Docker and shell scripting extensively to understand most of what he does there. There are no documentation references for that section (that would have been super helpful), so you won't be able to do it on your own after the course, and you obviously can not memorize all of that code and commands. So, my advice is that you just copy the code for that section from the repo into your project and follow along with the video lessons for the section. You will still learn a few things, at least to get you interested in learning Docker and shell script. Once you get past that point, you should be able to grasp the rest of the course.

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing great and I hope everyone will read this review. If you want to be job ready and want to know how things are done inside a company, forget the beginner django courses or any other course related to django. If you want to do django & python the right way take this course. I'm a product manager that wants to switch to Python Backend Developper. I've been doing python for the last three years as a hobby but now I'm willing to switch to full time python/django dev and I can assure you that the only course you need is this one. I had an interview with a CTO recently and he was so impressed by the amount of knowledge I presented him with. I had great feedback regarding my interview and now I'm waiting for my offer to be ready. So guys If you put bad reviews regarding this course, I can tell you that you are wrong about it, out there is not easy you are gonna face same weird bugs and you should be ready to tackle great challenges. That's all from me. I hope you the best :)

We need more instructors like Alpha. I hope he releases new courses. It's very interesting how the project is built from scratch; everything is going well so far. Of course, you need experience to understand everything the instructor Alpha teaches. I still don't understand why people aren't aware of this, and their ratings are based on that

The course effectively fulfills its promise, providing comprehensive knowledge and insights into creating APIs. Alpha, demonstrates an in-depth understanding and expertise. The material is well-organized and presented in a manner that is both engaging and informative. The return on investment for this course would easily justify a 6 star rating. @ Alpha It would be beneficial for learners if you would create an additional course focusing on the frontend aspects. This would complement the existing content and provide a more rounded learning experience. Maybe you could make a course that explores the development of Microservices solutions with integrated frontends. This would be a natural progression from the current course.

It is good to learn about Django rest framework using Docker, Flower, Celery, Redis, Nginx and PostgreSQL. I'm both Linux and Windows user so I have no difficulties fetching it yet. So, I created the project in Windows 11. But still there are some problems in backing and restoring the database. Some errors are there it will be worked out soon. For now, it is a good course for learning about these things. Besides that, everything is great to learn from till now.

By far the best course I have enrolled on Udemy. There's a huge difference between instructors who are professional trainers and Alpha who works with the tools and give you the many aspects that come with setting up and deploying a production ready API. I have no hesitation recommending this course though it's meant for someone who has a service they want to run live and an understanding of other technologies like Linux and Web services etc and not a professional learner. Mr. Ogilo Alpha is this hands down best value for money. Thank you!!

Finally a course with in depth real world programming approach, you can't find courses like this every day the course really valuable for who want to enhance there coding in Django and see how to do the best practice approach in Django, hope to see more courses like this from Alpha, can't wait Note: you have to have made several projects already with Django and deployed them so you know already the overall method and then take this course, Thanks for this awesome course.

The course is very good in the part that it shows a more professional/production grade approach to building apps with Django and the DRF. Like the author said, the course is not for beginners. I wish the author would explain more about some "whys" of configuring stuff the way he did and how it all would fit in the design and functionality of the application. It's fast paced and in the end you basically follow along with a lot of questions to for your own research.

By Colin Hennigar on 4/12/2022

I bought this course mainly for the Celery aspect and am almost finished with it and am very satisfied. The instructor uses best practices so I could just follow along without having to give up using best practices or formatting the structure of the code differently than the course. I also learned a bunch more about Django and API's. You do need some experience with Django and maybe Docker to not get lost, but I wish I took this course sooner!

By Salman Barani on 4/4/2022

This course is not for beginners or those who have 6 months of experience in web development. if you have a good understanding of the technologies that the author has mentioned and want to learn best practices while using them then this course is good. but if you're not familiar with these technologies then you have to put too much time into research to understand what the author is talking about. the author never explains deeply what's going on, he gives a small description and also he talks too fast so you never get what he says. The author is a good developer that uses best technologies and shows best practices in creating a production-ready Django web app, but he is not a good instructor.
