Optimization problems and algorithms [2024] (Udemy.com)

The course is mainly about the particle swarm optimization technique but also covers the basics of optimization in a simple-to-understand language. It also covers coding them using MATLAB. However, it is good to know that PSO was originally implemented in MATLAB with better performance, and after you understand the algorithm, you may use the MATLAB original function for your optimizations rather than the one brought here.

During my education I had some exposure to deterministic optimization methods. Prior to taking this course I had some doubts about the nature of the material that could be taught on an introductory online course. But as a newcomer to the field of stochastic optimization, I really enjoyed even the parts where Dr. Seyedali explains basic concepts at intuitive level. Thank you very much for such an enjoyable experience!

It has been a few years since I worked with optimization problems (I took a PhD in optimization), this was a pleasant revisit. I am impressed with how simple the PDO algorithm as well as the key concepts were explained in this course. Throughout my PhD work I never came over such an easy clear explanations. Like many academics, the instructors coding skills are sub-par, but sufficient to explain and code the scripts in this course. In particular, I appreciate the pragmatic attitude, demonstrating easy to use, practical solutions instead of going into derails such as pruning search space through branch and bound or cutting plane techniques.

The Tutor makes too much assumption about the foreknowledge of the students. This may not be so helpful for beginners or intermediate students. It is adviceable that it is stated from the beginning of the course if the course is meant for beginners or advanced Matlab learners.

I have enjoyed the course especially that Prof Seyedali takes us through the programming sessions.The course is thorough with both the theoretical and practical basics of Optimization.I would recommend it to anyone new in Optimization because the explanations are clear.The analogy used at the beginning is also very useful relating optimization to everyday life,making it more interesting.

The course is quite enjoyable. Thanks a lot to Udemy and the instructor Prof. Mirjalili. I would like to highlight some points below: pros: - Covers lot of topics. - Core concepts are very clearly presented. cons: - Initial lectures are slow and too much cartoonish. - No real life case study is presented. - Prof. could have given reference to some key papers.

Thanks Dr. Seyedali for giving this wonderful course. It was one of the best course i took in my life. I enjoyed a lot in the courses. The strategy was great. He first give an overview of the subject and then illustrate in Matlab environment. I learned a lot from this course. I recommend everyone to take this courses. I already enrolled for his other courses but i forgot to use cupons, do not forget :)

The course describes clearly and simply the advantages of applying optimization methods. The short introduction has answered to principle questions like why we should apply optimization methods? or what is the benefits of optimization techniques? As I have researched to design a smart and robust optimization method for optimizing a real engineering problem which is a kind of renewable energy technique, I can see what is the differences between using simulated model and optimization methods. Moreover, a comprehensive optimization landscape is analyzed in this course to highlight the main expected issues in the optimization world perfectly.

I feel fortunate enough to join this course offered by Dr. Seyedali. For me and all those working in the area of the optimization problem, this course is life-saving. I really enjoyed the videos especially in the programming part, where the tutor explained the bits and pieces of the code of related problems. This course has given me a little bit more breadth to my understaning of looking to a problem. I awe the contribution Dr. Seyedali and hope to continue in the future with similer courses.

It was a great course. I enjoyed the high-quality videos and it is fascinating how easy the contents is to follow. The instructor is also very very knowledgeable and explains everything in great details. The structure of the course is also easy to follow because there is a logic behind the order or lectures. I found this helpful too. I hope to see more courses like this one.
