Course Description
This is an introductory course to the Genetic Algorithms. We will cover the most fundamental concepts in the area of nature-inspired Artificial Intelligence techniques. Obviously, the main focus will be on the Genetic Algorithm as the most well-regarded optimization algorithm in history. The Genetic Algorithm is a search method that can be easily applied to different applications including Machine Learning, Data Science, Neural Networks, and Deep Learning.
With over 10 years of experience in this field, I have structured this course to take you from novice to expert in no time. Each section introduces one fundamental concept and takes you through the theory and implementation. The course is concluded by solving several case studies using the Genetic Algorithm.
Most of the lectures come with coding videos. In such videos, the step-by-step process of implementing the optimization algorithms or problems are presented. We have also a number of quizzes and exercises to practice the theoretical knowledge covered in the lectures.
Here is the list of topics covered:
The inspiration of the Genetic Algorithm
Selection or survival of the fittest
Recombination or crossover
Mutation
Elitism
Implementation
Application
I am proud of 200+ 5-star reviews. Some of the reviews are as follows:
Femi said: "I really enjoyed the instructor style of explanation. He has a very solid understanding of the course and he made complex problems fun to solve."
Abhay said: "I tread cautiously when am taking MOOCs, as most of the courses offered fall short of what they claim they have to offer, eventually ending up quitting the course after making, say, 10% progress. But this course is different, after completing almost 80% - 90% of the course, I can say with confidence, that this is one of the most worthy courses I have undertaken on the topic of GA. The course is precise, relevant to the real-world problems and Ali is quite an engaging and prompt instructor. Hell, even the Possums in Australia would double that."
Ahmad said: "It was very nice experience. I think the course is designed very well for beginners like me because it starts with the basics. Then it gradually becomes more difficults. Overall it was a great course. Thanks Ali or Seyedali both of you :D :) if you know what I mean."

Seyedali Mirjalili
Professor Seyedali (Ali) Mirjalili is internationally recognized for his advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and optimization, including the first set of SI techniques from a synthetic intelligence standpoint - a radical departure from how natural systems are typically understood - and a systematic design framework to reliably benchmark, evaluate, and propose computationally cheap robust optimization algorithms. Prof. Mirjalili has published over 500 research outputs.
Prof. Mirjalili has over 110,000 citations in total with an H-index of 110. From Google Scholar metrics, he is globally one of the most-cited researchers in Artificial Intelligence. As the most cited researcher in Robust Optimization, he is in the list of 1% highly-cited researchers and named as one of the most influential researchers in AI by the world by Web of Science. In 2022 and 2023, The Australian newspaper recognized him as a global leader in Artificial Intelligence and a national leader in the Evolutionary Computation and Fuzzy Systems fields.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience through this course. It was a privilege! I have truly enjoyed this course. Academically I am at a juncture of implementing the real coded GA, but this course has given me the necessary foundation.

It is a compact and complete course for anyone wanting to understand how genetic algorithm works. The concepts were explained thoroughly with many intuitive examples. I enjoyed the course and learned a lot. Thank you very much. The class is fun as well. However, I wish that instead of MATLAB, the coding was done in python because watching the videos and coding in another language was not the best experience. Also, fewer errors during the coding would have been nicer, but anyways, the course was beneficial, and thanks again!

The mentor is a great communicator with great in-depth knowledge in this particular field of interest. Explaining not only the step by step process of the coding but also valuable theoretical basis behind it with clear figures to help understand the operators better. Also the mentor has a great sense of humor as well, making the learning process more enjoyable :D

Amazing! I've been studying for my undergraduate thesis by learning with this course. Professor Seyedali seems to know a lot about GAs and other things related to artificial intelligence. It's easy to understand what he teaches. I'm not giving the best note just because I think that it would be interesting if the professor takes a bit of time in the course to explain a little deeper about the code, the programming language. I could understand because I work with programming (C and Python) and it's not hard to see the similarities among these three languages, but I guess that it could be harder for someone who has not programming knowledge enough. Thank you Mirjalili for showing me how interesting this field of study can be :)

This course is very much required for my current assignments. Sir, we really now understoods the theory with its implementation in MatLab. Currently I will try in Octave. Sir, all codes work or some changes required?. With regards. Sir, any case study with Rader cross section optimization CGA?. There are frequency, reflection loss with some range. Thanks sir, I learnt lots with this course and I continue to improve knowledge in GA field Sanjeev sanjeev_rawat@yahoo.com

Dr. Ali`s knowledge is perfect on the Genetic Algorithm and I learned a lot, but his teaching on coding is a bit frustrating with too many errors. He should have prepared very well and practice typing the desired codes. This is not a live course, therefore, he has time to modify and edit each video, then upload very clean code. Honestly, I got lost in the middle of the codes for GA by spending too much time on debugging instead of learning.

This course is exactly what I was looking for; I do wish there was an example in section 9 using the continuous GA instead of the bit GA. That said the content is excellent , I wrote code as I followed along. I enjoyed the fact that you debugged your code live, it gave me the opportunity to catch up while I was writing and I now have a deeper understanding of MATLAB operations as well as knowing the GA inside and out.

Great course so far (about 70% complete). I really like the instructor (Dr. Seyedali Mirjalili). He goes over problems in a very systematic way, combines intuitive explanations with more rigorous one, and provides actual Matlab code to test and play with it. I know some people might find that the videos are not exactly "professional" - they depict real time explanations, along with possible hiccups that some of the coders might find along the way. However, I find the videos very informative, clear, and entertaining at the same time. The instructor has an accent, but he is very very clear (I mostly watch 1.75 speed, and I can comprehend everything, sometimes I slow down for the more sticky concepts. I am not a native English speaker myself, btw). Yes, you can find this information elsewhere, go through various books and articles - but here you have it all presented to you, in very easily digestible chunks. I applaud instructors like that, because it is very easy to sound sophisticated and deliver the material in a way that's absolutely incomprehensible for students with limited background knowledge on the topic. Dr. Seyedali Mirjalili is the opposite of this archetype. He goes through minor details, making sure that no student is left behind (you can always skip some of the more obvious explanations, but I choose not to, because the intuition he provides is valuable to me). Thank you for the course!

This is my 3rd course on optimisation with the same teacher here on Udemy. Ali knows his field in detail and explains everything clearly using a step by step approach. This course has helped me to think about possibilities to apply genetic optimisation in my own research. I am very happy with his content and wish to give him maximum possible rating. Plus he makes funny jokes sometimes.. which are unexpected but pleasant.
