Course Description
Operational planning and long term planning for companies are more complex in recent years. Information changes fast, and the decision making is a hard task. Therefore, optimization algorithms (operations research) are used to find optimal solutions for these problems. Professionals in this field are one of the most valued in the market.
In this course you will learn what is necessary to solve problems applying Mathematical Optimization and Metaheuristics:
Linear Programming (LP)
Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP)
NonLinear Programming (NLP)
Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MINLP)
Genetic Algorithm (GA)
Multi-Objective Optimization Problems with NSGA-II (an introduction)
Particle Swarm (PSO)
Constraint Programming (CP)
Second-Order Cone Programming (SCOP)
NonConvex Quadratic Programming (QP)
The following solvers and frameworks will be explored:
Solvers: CPLEX – Gurobi – GLPK – CBC – IPOPT – Couenne – SCIP
Frameworks: Pyomo – Or-Tools – PuLP – Pymoo
Same Packages and tools: Geneticalgorithm – Pyswarm – Numpy – Pandas – MatplotLib – Spyder – Jupyter Notebook
Moreover, you will learn how to apply some linearization techniques when using binary variables.
In addition to the classes and exercises, the following problems will be solved step by step:
Optimization on how to install a fence in a garden
Route optimization problem
Maximize the revenue in a rental car store
Optimal Power Flow: Electrical Systems
Many other examples, some simple, some complexes, including summations and many constraints.
The classes use examples that are created step by step, so we will create the algorithms together.
Besides this course is more focused in mathematical approaches, you will also learn how to solve problems using artificial intelligence (AI), genetic algorithm, and particle swarm.
Don't worry if you do not know Python or how to code, I will teach you everything you need to start with optimization, from the installation of Python and its basics, to complex optimization problems. Also, I have created a nice introduction on mathematical modeling, so you can start solving your problems.
I hope this course can help you in your career. Yet, you will receive a certification from Udemy.

The course is well structured and progressive. The explanations are clear. There are plenty of examples to help you apply what you learn. The resources allow you to delve deeper into theoretical concepts that are not covered in detail in the course.

I liked the practical approach used in this course for teaching a very heavy topic. Since the topic of optimization is very vast, I was expecting a little more deep-dive on theoretical part by the instructor. But instead, most of the theory are provided as reference pdfs, some of which are not very educational. However, this course helped me get a very good grasp of structured programming for solving optimization problems using python!

Very nice course with lots of examples and exercises. Definitely useful for gaining/improving skills in solving mathematical problems with Python. However, I found two little flaws within the course - hence the 4 star rating. The instructor is experienced and knowledgeable in the topic of optimization and solver usage, but seems less fluent with programming itself - some code-related terms are misused and some generic code is added without explanation. Also, during many exercises the videos are just filled with timers (5-30 minutes) - this may not be a big deal, but eventually the course is a lot shorter than 13 hours shown by Udemy. I prefer when the exercises are introduced in one video and solved in another one - without the timer in-between. Having considered the tiny flaws, I still recommend the course as it introduced many different problems in details with use of various packages and the explanation was great.

For me the course was a good introduction to pyomo and other frameworks with examples. I already studied operations research so it served as a little refresher. Subtitles are not very good since they are auto generated, if you can understand english then its ok.

Danke!

I really enjoyed the course. It was exactly what I was looking for and provided a very nice overview of classic operations research problems and how to solve them in python by using different frameworks and solvers. I strongly recommend it to anyone who is interested in operations research.

This is a very interesting course. It fulfill its purpose, i.e., it does show in detail how one can solve different types of optimization problems using solvers and Pyomo (a solver framework). Explanations are clear and the exercises are helpful. The instructor is not a native speaker of English, so one should expected a small mistake here and there regarding the use of the language. However, this does affect the learning process. I liked the course and I do recommend it.

Excellent course, that covers at an appropriate pace all the subjects from systems installations and Python Basics to detailed use-cases. Good references available for those wanting to dig deeper into specific topics. Videos are useful and easy to get back to as quick reference or reminder. The instructor is really responsive on questions asked. Genetic algorithms and evolutionary algorithms that are mentioned in the course description are indeed covered in the course content, but with less emphasis as use of solvers (which is what I was looking for). In the end, this course fully met my expectations. As a first experience with an online course, I am really satisfied and consider follow more. Thanks!
