Course Description

This course is the foundation for the Pearson IT Specialist Certification ITF-201 "Databases Fundamentals", which is also known as ITS-201 and ITN-201, and focuses on Microsoft SQL Server's T-SQL. Learn in just a few hours how to create tables, queries, views, procedures and more.

What do people like you say about it?

Seme says "Thank you very much for your valuable course . I really enjoyed this course . Packed a lot of information , I found it very interesting and useful . Thank you ."

Gasper says "Phillip always does a great job, this is my third course from him. Passionate and informed, I will take as many courses as I can from him."

Jonas says "Explaining SQL on a very easyway! Takes you though everything you need to know nice and calm."

We start off by installing for free on your Windows desktop or laptop SQL Server, and learning how the six clauses of the SELECT statement - SELECT, FROM, WHERE, GROUP BY, HAVING and ORDER BY.

We'll examine how data is stored in tables, and see why normalisation is important for the proper building of tables.

We'll then look at constraints, which allows you to set up rules for your data. Following this, how can we insert, update and delete data? We'll also create views, procedures and functions.

Finally, we'll investigate how to speed up your queries using indexes, add security, and back up your data.

No prior knowledge is required - I'll even show you how to install SQL Server on your computer for free!

There are regular quizzes to help you remember the information, so you can be sure that you are learning.

Once finished, you will have a good introductory knowledge of how databases work and be able to construct your own SELECT statements. And with a bit of practice, you could also go for the official IT Specialist exam - wouldn’t that certificate look good on your CV or resume?

This is a quite comprehensive journey that the instructor, Phillip, takes you through in order to teach you a lot of what is needed to know regarding SQL. I really enjoyed and found very helpful to have lots of quizzes and practice activities. Despite this not being my first SQL course, I definitely had difficulties with some of the concepts and needed to watch some parts more than once (or twice) so I would not let not understanding at first deter you from continuing this course. If I had one advice to give would be to move the last 'extra videos' part back to their initial place, with the same mention that this is not absolutely necessary and can be skipped - I think that it would be easier to follow in order rather than having to go back and find the section 12 practice activity in order to do the triggers practice activity at the end. But this is just me being a bit too nitpicky. I recommend this course!

This was a great refresher for me as I haven't interacted databases for quite some time in my job position. The course was clearly defined and easy to follow along with great examples and explanations. I would recommend this to beginners as well, as this is all you really need to know when starting off.

This helped me prepare for my exam and scored 92%. The SQL examples in each topic are well thought out. The topic on Database roles and application, are overly simplified, which I needed to supplement with external materials, since I struggled to answer practice exam questions on that topic. However, overall, this course is still amazing and deserves 5 stars.

I know that they no longer let you sign up to take this course but if you have a voucher and want to pass get this course. I took a database course in college 11 years ago so I started to remember a few things as I was learning but my knowledge was basically zero. So with 3 days to go and haven’t had studied a single lick I decided to purchase this course and it was the best thing I could have ever done. I passed the Test with a 88% and if I had actually been able to study after finishing the course I probably would have been in the high 90s if not a perfect score.. He teaches you everything you need to know here. I normally don’t leave reviews but this course was too helpful not to!

I purchased this course to initially learn about SQL Server, including T-SQL. As a result of completing this course, I then decided to undertake the 98-364 exam which I have successfully passed. I was a beginner at the time of starting this course, now I obtain knowledge about the fundamentals of SQL Server and T-SQL in general. Phillip is an excellent instructor, and I would highly recommend in investing in this course if you are a beginner and is looking to learn about SQL, as well as SQL Server. Many thanks Phillip!

Instructor could have spent more time on the first half (fundamentals), even if it meant focusing less on the subject material in the latter half; some of which wasn't relevant to the exam.

Passed the exam yesterday with 94 !! While I was going through your course, there were a few things that didn't really get to me, or I wasn't a big fan of the way you showed and did a few things. Well, I must say that those exact things helped me in the exam, and would like to thank you for that !! Now, to the next challenge !

Great course covering all the fundamentals of SQL. I have a lot of experience and prior knowledge from using SQL a lot in my job and just wanted to verify that I am qualified to pass the MTA certificate, but this course really explained in detail some of the things I use on a regular basis but never really knew why. Great job!

By Tandy Imhoff on 1/1/2021

Very inclusive of all materials needed for the test. Between this course and the extra practice tests by Rwynn Christian, I passed with a 90%. It was a struggle at times to get through the materials, but I took extra notes and used his provided notes for studying and feel better prepared to dissect/troubleshoot coding or build my own databases using only SQL.

Really another great course by Phillip. Nice introduction to T-SQL world. This was my first attempt learning something about SQL and it was not overwhelming. If I can do it, everybody can. Really enjoyed practice activities, short quizzes and practice test. Looking forward to be practicing of what I just learned.
