What is this course all about ?

Welcome to SAP ABAP programming for absolute beginners. ABAP is the programming language of SAP - the most popular ERP. In the world of SAP consulting, there are 3 types of consultants.

  • Functional Consultants ( SD, MM, FI etc )
  • Technical Consultants ( ABAP, WebDynpro, Workflow, Fiori  etc )
  • Basis & security consultants ( Basis Admin, GRC etc )

This course lays the foundation for anybody ( irrespective of programming background ) to be a technical consultant.

I don't know Programming / Coding Scares me

Programming is all about "logical" thinking. If you are a logical thinker ( which is a silly question, isn't it ? ) you can be a programmer. You need to be patient though. You don't need degrees or anything special background to learn this course. If there is one requirement, that is Patience. If you are impatient, I do not suggest you take this course - or for that matter any programming course.

Not just me. I know many who are not comfortable with programming

The worry is real. I understand. Programming is like learning a new language. How long does it take for you to learn Spanish or French ? Many months if not years. And the more you speak, the more you learn. Same thing applies for programming. The more you program, the more you feel at home with ABAP.

How does this course make programming easy ?

Staying true to the title of the course - 'in Plain English' is the USP of this course. I left the first 3 hours of the course open for preview. Please go through it before you buy this course. Beginners to programming require a flat learning curve to make them feel comfortable - that is precisely what this course intends to achieve.

What this course is not ?

This is neither the most comprehensive, nor the most elaborate course in ABAP. Although folks with programming knowledge can greatly benefit from this course, this course is NOT designed for them. This course is tailor made for folks with no programming experience.

Also, not everybody needs to know ABAP. For example, functional consultants or system administrators need not learn ABAP. Unless you plan to become techno-functional, you need not take this course if you are a functional consultant.

How to make the best of this course ?

For those with no programming experience, I suggest you do the following.

  1. Try to complete every exercise on your own.
  2. Don't just listen - Practice. Get access to an IDES system.
  3. Post your questions in the forum.
  4. Review what you learnt with the attached notes.

For those having some programming experience, this course can be pretty slow. Here are some tips to make this go a bit faster.

  1. You can skip the exercises.
  2. Based on the title, feel free to skip certain parts.
  3. Use the attached notes for quick reference.

Siva Prasad

I am an SAP SD/MM functional consultant with roughly 12 years of experience in SAP. Teaching has been my passion since a long time and I have been teaching SAP since 2009. I have worked on countless projects in SAP in the US and the rest of the world. I have worked with major companies in the US like Apple, Wal-mart, Adidas, Adobe, Johnson & Johnson etc.

All along, I have worked with numerous SAP consultants with skills that range from absolute rookie to SAP platinum consultants. And the one thing that I found lacking in many beginner level consultants is a lack of proper training. They were just 1 step away from being a good quality SAP consultant. This gap can be easily be filled with high quality training.

SAP, just like any other packaged software can best be learned by example. This has been the focus of all my trainings - Examples and correlating them to real-time scenarios. Once you learn how to co-relate a particular piece of configuration with a real time example, you can become as good as an experienced consultant.

I think this course is easy to understand for beginners learning ABAP. However, it is unfortunate that the SAP version used in the course is quite old. I am using S/4HANA 2022, so the icons and menus are different, and I need to check where the buttons I need are located. I would really appreciate it if you could create an ABAP course that supports the latest S/4HANA versions. The pace of learning is slow and easy to follow, which is great. Because the version is outdated, I rated it four stars.

Very nice course, it gives quite good overview in topic of ABAP programming and like it says in the title - all in plain english. Although there were some frustrating moments when I was wandering why something was written in some way and just in the end of video it turned out to be a simple mistake. Also ALV section seemd to me a little too chaotic and compressed and was much harder to understand than everything else.

At the beginning of this training I was able to follow everything clearly, in the end it became a little more confusing and difficult to follow. It is a good training to start ABAP, however, it is not enough for us to know how to program ABAP.

I'm from finance background with no knowledge on programing. Have tried other courses in Udemy which didn't help me. Boy this course really have infused fresh technical capabilities to my skillset. Wonderfully articulated. I would recommend those who wants to get a programming knowledge like me, go for this course. If someone cannot understand from this course, I can rest assure they will not from any other course. Thanks to Siva and Udemy. Siva- I would suggest to come up with advanced training program for ABAP similar to SD.

This course is for beginner and Mr. Shiva elaborate each and every concepts very clearly. I am not from technical background, and not aware about coding, but still the technics and detailing Shiva gives awesome. I request to Mr. Siva please add some more advance concepts and provide some PDF study material like - Command, tables, functions, objects forms, and etc.

Siva comes across as a very personable teacher with much experience, and this is an excellent course... more so for beginners, in ABAP ( "day 9" was tough going). I would thoroughly recommend this course, especially on a Udemy offer. [Siva's example of his wife's Mutton Biryani made me chuckle ;)]

very interesting and easy to follow course. The instructor gives very clear instruction and reconstruct many of the familiar scenarios one would encounter in their daily work. However, the instructor gets erratic towards the end especially in the last few lectures, with a lot of mistakes and missing steps (you need to sometimes look at the resources and figure out some of the missing steps) in the videos.

I feel happy and fortunate to have taken this course. It has added lot of value to my understanding on the technical side of Programs running in SAP.Hope to do lot more courses from Sivaprasad, if available, relevant to ABAP.I did not had the opportunity to learn BAPI,BADI,BDC,RFC , IDOC, Webdynpro, OO ABAP etc in this course.Looking forward for more.Happy learning...Best wishes to Siva prasad for all the hard-work you have put in, to make a course for people in need.Thank a Lot....

Excellent course by excellent teacher. I would request to upload new video series for Interfaces, Coversions,Enhancements, Forms and Workflows which help us to become familiar with complete RICEFW.

By Carolyn Brooks on 5/10/2018

As someone new to SAP and programming this was a very useful first training programme. Some of the explanations at the beginning of the course seemed a little basic but that's because the tutor, Siva, assumes you have no relevant experience. I found the last program (30) accelerated in difficulty somewhat compared the the rest of the course and had to re-visit this section several times. Siva explains WHY you do what you do at each stage, promoting understanding, and it's taught bite by bite rather than in a linear way, again promoting a good understanding. It is evident that Siva knows this stuff inside out, which is always reassuring.
