In this course, we will look in an hour at the SELECT statement.

There are six constituent clauses in this statement: 

  • SELECT - this is akin to the Print statement in other languages, and

  • FROM - this shows your data source,

  • WHERE - this filters down your data source,

  • GROUP BY - this enables the results to be summarised,

  • HAVING - this filters the summary, and

  • ORDER BY - this sorts your results.

We will then look at saving your code using both views and procedures.

Finally, we'll export your reports into Excel, both statistically (copy and paste) and dynamically (so that you always have the latest reports).

In just an hour, you'll be able to create your own SELECT statements, so you can use them in SQL Server (SSMS, SSRS and SSIS) and in Excel. This is all you need to start writing and using your own code. Quick and easily.

If you have not already got SQL Server installed on your machine, this course includes a link to a video which shows you how you can install for free SQL Server Developer edition, together with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). These can be installed on your laptop or desktop to use for learning purposes for as long as you need.

Knowledge of this will also help with the DP-300 and DP-600 exams.

This was an excellent intro to SQL. I have started and stopped trying to learn SQL for my job and have used a few different ways to try to learn the basics, but this is a very well-rounded approach that answers some questions that I believe are often overlooked for a beginner. Would recommend for someone just getting started.

For me personally, the hour course was completed over 6 hours as I stopped to take notes and really take things in by rewinding quite a bit. Totally fine for me as it helped what I learned stick so that I can remember it when I put it to use. So may want to consider adding a few more hours when considering taking this course. :) Totally worth it. Enjoy!

Easy to follow, with relevant examples. It was basic condensed material, but due to the clear structure, one can easily finish it in less than three hours (with breaks, sic.), including Server installation. Highly recommend. Thank you.

Instructor seems like a very kind & genuine person! Voice clarity and audio was great. The content was good and I did learn some things. However (constructive feedback), it was a bit rushed for me personally - a little too fast going from one concept to the next. Instructors skills are sharp but for the newer SQL learner, it could have been a bit less complex for an intro lesson.

ik had geen verwachtingen, ik had het moeilijk in het begin , want ik had een server. Dus ik ben eerst op zoek gegaan wat het probleem was en toen heb ik een server gedownload en k ik pas echt beginnen. Daarvoor had ik de cursus theoretisch gedaan, maar dat is niet hetzelfde.
