Course Description

This course will expose you to prominent learning theories in the field of education today. Since there is no one "correct" learning theory, you will learn the basics of what these theories say, where problems lie in application, and how to use them in your classroom management, lesson planning, and lesson delivery.

This course has been carefully crafted so that participants with no formal education background can easily partake in the course. Likewise, the course has been designed for new educators with no experience, educators with years of experience, and everyone in between. Anyone can take this course!

The dreaded theory course has been made fun and useful for all participants. With the use of engaging whiteboard videos, useful worksheets, and presentation videos, the course is designed to challenge your mind while being captivating at the same time. The course is guided by an instructional design framework created by the author, which is based off several prominent learning theories. So this course is just not a mishmash of activities to fill time, but a carefully sculpted program to guide the participant through a learning experience.

Most educators learn how to teach by methodologies, but now, I am here to show you how to start teaching by learning theory to truly see results in your classroom.

It is a good course. But I would have liked the instructor to be a little slow in his rendition. Also a little extra time can be given to absorb the key words. The practice sheets an assessments can be made interactive and students can be asked to assess each others understanding through worksheets or presentations.

Personally, very beneficial for me as I did not have much idea about TESOL. With this course, I have now learnt theories, hypotheses, and techniques that can equip me to become a good ESL teacher. I especially liked the Problems and How to use Sections of the course as they were very insightful. Thanks!

This covers a lot of new, useful material for me - learning theories, best classroom practices and ways to overcome problems that learners face. The presentation is easy to understand and goes at a good pace, however I found myself going over some content more than once as sometimes it felt too fast. The "Think about it questions" are good but, it would be good if there was a place on the sheet and prompts in a video to write two answers; one before and one after going through the module. Would recommend to other teachers of ESL or EFL.

Reasons for the rating is as follows: Simple Easy to understand Teaching methods applied worldwide Good references to classroom managment Antiquity and time. Imitation and association. We learn what is positively reinforced as good as it is accompanied by behaviour, attitude and approach that rewards in contrast to what is negative. This contributes to the social formations of value based learning and development through one method using voice (tone, pace, attitude and approach) to develop positive learning behaviour through the Audio Lingual Method (ALM). Insightful Clear Good communication Good audio quality and sound files Good lessons - Easy to Follow Good job. Thank you

Hello I think this course handles a lot of different theories but I would have wished they focus on theories that are being use nowadays and just mentions as a summary all theories that historically built the grounds for recent ones. Teacher has a accent that was particularly distracting for me but in conclusing I did learned about valuable aspects of SLA techniques. Thanks, Gloria

The instructor provides useful information and, in providing multiple strategies and explaining the positive and negative portions of the theory, is never dogmatic or absolutist as to which strategy is best. All information has been both theoretically enlightening and practically explained.

The course was simply amazing. I really enjoyed it. It was pretty refreshing to know more about these theories. I had some background knowledge of some of them, but not of all. This creates a dilemma for me since I was considering to take the CELTA examination and it seems just right for people who are beginning teaching, but TESOL was way more holistic I would say. I will definitely look more into it. On the whole, the course is worth every penny. Regards, Hugo

It was good course and went through very quick and systematically. In the beginning when I was about to sign up for the course I was scared that there would be 58 videos but it is not correct. Each topic includes about 2 or 3 informative/lecture videos rest of them are either questions or responses to questions. It is good the instructor reads them and created a video but the number 58 made me scared. It would be good if he write like 20 lecture videos and 28 other useful videos.

Going into details about theories that have problems didn't seem like the most efficient use of time. Although I appreciate the practical advice by telling us certain things we probably should not do while teaching.

It's great! I've been teaching English online for about five years now and learning language myself for about 10 years. This course has helped me define better some of the techniques I use and has made me reflect on changes I need to make on how I go about teaching students, especially those that seem "fossilized". I recommend this course to anyone who is a language teacher.
