This is an excellent course for launching an audiobook career! With a ton of detail, insights from experience, and a confidence-inspiring approach, Paul generously provides the new audiobook producer with all the essentials for getting started and progressing all the way to delivering a title. The proof? I just published my first audiobook on Audible (Music in the Bible, by Charles Jirkovsky, narrated by me) thanks to this superb course, to which I attribute 95% of my means for getting it done. Paul's course is extremely detailed oriented, practical and thoughtful. I am just starting a career in audiobook narration, and I feel well-prepared to start recording samples and seeking work through ACX. I really appreciated his various "tricks of the trade" and can't imagine how daunting this would feel if I hadn't completed this course. With zero prior experience in recording and sound editing/mastering, I learned a ton from Paul and am excited to go deeper into this practice and profession. I'm a budding writer of children's stories. The participants in my writers' groups have always commented on how my particular reading/presentation style brings my stories to life. I'm venturing into audiobook production/narration, focusing mostly on my own books, motivated by these positive comments :). Given this beginning stage of my venture into audiobook narration, this course is a good fit for me. The comprehensiveness of this course is breathtaking, and I will not hesitate to recommend it to anyone starting out audiobook narration. Two areas for improvement: Some additional information on software for Windows would be helpful (saves time for Windows users); as to be expected, the course would need updates over time (e.g. current relevant Audient hardware). Well, done, Paul! Keep this up:)

I found this course to be VERY valuable. I had recently downloaded Reaper to ramp up to using it for voiceover, and I was searching for a class on audiobooks -- and here it was, a class on audiobooks with all of the information needed to set up and use Reaper for audiobooks! The course is packed with useful information. Paul's style is very personable, and he is very generous in sharing what has worked for him as he has forged his career in audiobooks. I am grateful that this course exists. I did go through it more than once and I took copious notes. I watched the course on one computer, and did everything in Reaper on a second computer stopping to make screenshots. It is complicated stuff, but Paul took his time, and repeated things that bore repeating. My only constructive criticism is it would be nice to show us how to MAKE a CUSTOM ACTION prior to showing us how to USE it. Small matter, but useful for those of us doing it step by step as we go through the course. It was more than worth the price of the course. Thanks.

I really enjoyed this course! Paul went through everything from getting set up all the way through final mastery and rendering. I learned a ton and I feel like it was completely worthwhile. I would recommend this course to anyone I know.

Really complete course. I learn more than I expect with it

This course is excellent but I did not realise it was so long. Good value for money.

He wastes so much time with the intro of every little segment both repeating what was done and also saying things like “This piece of information is amazing! You will save sooo much time with this technique.” He literally says that half a dozen times. Another example is when setting up preferences, he goes to each setting one by one, looking at it, and then saying “ok, you don’t change anything there” dozens of times, instead of figuring out the few settings that need to be changed and recording that, and saying leave everything else alone. The BoothJunkie YouTube channel, which Jenkins, the author of this course learned this from (and credits( gives this information for free, and cuts out all the unnecessary time wasting. That said, the technical information is solid, so I’m giving a 3 instead of 2 stars. I also found the segments on the actual voice acting really mediocre too. He gives examples and “line readings” for voicing characters, e.g. how he would inflect things, and I found it really ”on the nose”. I don’t think I would enjoy a fiction book he narrates, based on what I heard. I won’t dock the rating for that though, I just skipped some of it.
