Course Description

Being data literate means having the necessary competencies to work with data.

Regardless of your field of expertise – if you want a rewarding career path – you will certainly benefit from these skills.

Any manager or business executive worth their salt is able to articulate a problem that can be solved using data.

So, if you want to build a successful career in any industry, acquiring full data literacy should certainly be one of your key objectives.

  • Someone who is data literate would have the ability to:

  • Articulate a problem that can potentially be solved using data

  • Understand the data sources involved

  • Check the adequacy and fitness of data involved

  • Interpret the results of an analysis and extract insights

  • Make decisions based on the insights

  • Explain the value generated with a use case

You will acquire all these skills by taking this course. Together, we will expand your quantitative skills and will ensure you have a solid preparation.

The course is organized into four main chapters. First, you will start with understanding data terminology – we will discuss the different types of data, data storage systems, and the technical tools needed to analyze data.

Then, we will proceed with showing you how to use data. We’ll talk about Business Intelligence (BI), Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as various machine and deep learning techniques.

In the third chapter of the course, you will learn how to comprehend data, perform data quality assessments, and read major statistics (measures of central tendency and measures of spread).

We conclude this course with an extensive section dedicated to interpreting data. You will become familiar with fundamental analysis techniques such as correlation, simple linear regression (what r-squared and p-values indicate), forecasting, statistical tests, and many more.

By the end of the course, you will learn how to understand and use the language of data.

Your instructor for this class will be Olivier Maugain. Very few online courses are taught by people with his professional track record. Olivier has worked in various industries, such as software distribution, consulting, and consumer goods. In his current role as Decision Intelligence Manager at a major European retailer, he supports the organization in making better and faster decisions using data.

A pesar de tratarse un tema complejo, los ejemplos y la claridad conceptual permiten entender en términos generales la implicaciones y potencialidad del correcto manejo de datos

Taking this Data Science course has been a rewarding experience for me. It gave me the opportunity to develop practical skills in data analysis, visualization, and problem-solving while working with real-world datasets. The course challenged me to think critically and approach problems in a more analytical way. I believe this course was a great match for my interests and career goals. I enjoy working with data and discovering insights that can support informed decision-making. While some topics required extra effort, they encouraged me to grow and build my confidence.

The material has been cut into pieces that are easier to absorb and understand. The quiz after each section, no matter how short, is a very good way of measuring your progress and grasp of the concepts. It is thoroughly appreciated to be afforded the chance to retake the quizzes. However, it is sad that we are halfway and we have only completed one role-play session. I would only request that we have more role-play, as it was an exciting way of gauging my understanding of data literacy. Thank you.

seems like intro section could be shorter. survey results not useful. The intro billed it as practical for everyone, but so far the content seems relevant to IT related fields only.

I love how simplistic the slide deck was and the effectiveness of the examples and information was presented. it was easy to follow, engaging and made the course go smoothly. the use of real examples also made the topic points connect better and allowed me to compare them to real situations i was exposed to. The narration wasn't monotoned which made the experience that much better. Recommend other take this course over others.

Creo que es un poco largo para hacerlo en una sola vez. Estaría más adecuado que se dividiera en varios cursos mas pequeños. Demasiada información que no alcanzas a cacharla toda.

Data is white gold and understanding the organization data is very important in order to build new emerging revenue streams and new line of businesses with proper use of data and making decisions on understanding of Data, as you rightly said Information or data is power if you can make decision and action on it.

I want to sincerely thank you for your guidance has been instrumental in helping me bridge the gap between technical data concepts and real-world application in our projects.

By Babalwa Okoye on 3/31/2026

When I first started the Data Literacy course, I saw data as just numbers in spreadsheets—something complicated and mostly for analysts. In my day-to-day work, I relied more on assumptions or quick observations rather than structured data. As I progressed through the course, I began to understand how data connects to real decisions. I learned how to read charts, identify patterns, and most importantly, ask the right questions. For example, instead of just noticing that performance was “low,” I started asking: When is it low? Why might that be happening? What does the data actually show? One key moment for me was realizing how small insights can lead to meaningful changes. After applying what I learned, I was able to interpret basic reports more confidently and communicate findings more clearly to others. Data stopped being overwhelming and became a tool I could use to support decisions. By the end of the course, my mindset had shifted. I no longer see data as intimidating—instead, I see it as a powerful way to tell a story, solve problems, and improve outcomes in my work.

Great course but I feel it's more suitable for Data Scientists/ Engineers than HR Specialists. The Facilitators are good and they simplify everything for easy understanding
