Course Description

Are you interested in learning how data can help a business thrive and prosper?

Do you want to be able to leverage the value of your business data?

If so, then this is the perfect course for you!

The hype around AI, data science, analytics and business intelligence is at its peak. Almost all companies are aware that data can help them improve their performance in some way, shape, or form. However, the majority of business executives commit the same crucial mistake:

“Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat’’

Sun Tzu, Chinese military strategist

Collecting and analysing data for the sake of working with numbers is far from optimal.

Data is only as valuable as the insights you will obtain from it.

So, to position your business for success in today’s AI and data-driven world, you have to start by reflecting on several key questions.

What are the key decisions your company will make that can be improved with the right data?

How is data going to help your firm improve and automate business processes?

In what way can data make your products or services better?

To what extent is your business’s data valuable to external parties who might be willing to pay for it?

It is much better to try and answer such fundamental questions first, rather than focusing extensively on data analysis techniques and data storage infrastructure requirements before you have defined a roadmap of how data will help your business in the long run.

A smart business executive focuses on data strategy first.

In this course, we will cover several important topics that will prove to be invaluable if you are:

- a business owner,

- a business executive

- an aspiring data practitioner.

We will provide context and help you understand why data is one of the most important for any business today. We’ll talk about hundreds of ways companies have benefited from a well-structured data strategy in real life. By the end of the course you will be able to recognize data-related opportunities in your own organization.

The course starts by focusing on the main ways in which data can help a business:

- use data to improve business decisions.

- use data to understand your customers and markets

- use data to provide more intelligent products and services

- use data to improve your business processes.

- use data to generate a meaningful revenue stream

We’ll discuss how companies have benefited from data in each of these scenarios and the practical implications you need to bear in mind before embarking on your data projects.

Then, in the next section of the course, we will do one of my favorite exercises that I do when working with and consulting for my clients. I will show you how to define your data use cases. We will brainstorm the data opportunities for your business and identify possible data use cases, ensuring a clear link to your strategic business goals. We will take this process as an opportunity to review your existing strategy to ensure it is still relevant in today's business world. We will then make sure you don't fall into the trap of identifying too many use cases - it is not about finding as many as you can, rather than the most important ones.

Then the course continues by focusing on sourcing and collecting data. An important topic that involves several key considerations. We will distinguish between structured and unstructured data, internal and external data, and so on. By the end of this section, you will have an idea how a company should approach data collection, and understand the different sources of data that could be used besides internal data.

This is a truly comprehensive course. We’ve also included sections on:

- Data governance, ethics, and trust

- How to turn data into insights (a brief description of the various techniques that can be used to analyze data)

- How to create the appropriate technology and data infrastructure in your company

- How to build the necessary data competencies in your organization

- How to execute and revisit your data strategy

I’m very excited that you are interested in this subject because I believe that this is one of the most fascinating aspects of today’s business world. Innovation through the use of data and data analysis is something I am very passionate about. I’ll be happy if you start or advance your data analysis journey with the Data Strategy course and I hope I will see you inside the course!

This course is definitely one I will be coming back to. This profoundly helped me understand some of the doubts and questions I had around building data programs, which I am in the throws of currently. This is a course-corrector and career strengthener as it helped me even understand some of the work that I and my team has done (with the terms and how others use the same techniques). It was grounding, succinct, easy to understand and now I can explain these to anyone else.

I am enjoying the course about data and how it can be used to the advantage of any business. I would've liked to see more sophisticated examples reflecting real projects from the corporate world, starting from the strategy and ending with the impact of the project, highlighting the return on investment from implementing the project. May be there is more in the rest of the course.

Being a Data Product Manager, I work in this realm everyday, but I wanted to refresh my perspective. I was looking for a zoomed out highlevel view of ways to think about data strategy and data culture, and this course did a great job consolidating that. I especially enjoyed the analogies and examples from different domains. This would be a great starting point for someone setting things up from scratch as well.

The course is an excellent introduction to building a data-driven strategy within an organization. Bernard Marr, a renowned futurist and expert in business and technology, shares his experiences and knowledge in a way that is accessible for both beginners and advanced data professionals. The course covers key topics related to creating a data-driven strategy, with concise, short lessons for easy understanding. Real-life examples from companies like Netflix, Disney, and Amazon help illustrate how large organizations successfully utilize data. The course covers both basic and advanced analytics techniques, such as sentiment analysis, time series analysis, deep learning, and cohort analysis, giving a broad view of available tools. Bernard focuses on the practical aspects of implementing a strategy, including challenges related to organizational culture and skill shortages, making the course realistic and useful. It also addresses legal and ethical challenges in data work, which is highly relevant in today’s world. The course is extensive, covering a wide range of topics, which may require additional study to understand some of the more advanced areas, like deep learning. Beginners might need an additional introduction to some concepts, as the course assumes a certain level of basic understanding. I recommend Bernard Marr’s course to anyone wanting to understand how to effectively implement a data-driven strategy in their organization. Through this course, I gained insights into structuring key business questions (KBQs), creating KPI dashboards, and managing real-time data. This course is a valuable investment for managers and data professionals looking to create data-driven organizations.

I appreciate the effort put into this course, but unfortunately, it didn’t meet my expectations. From start to finish, the content felt very basic and lacked the depth I was hoping for. While I accepted a more practical approach, the course mainly consisted of slides with voiceovers, which felt too generic. I was expecting more interactive or detailed material beyond just slides.

I loved this course. It's a great opportunity to learn how data is one of the greatest assets in today's organizations and understand how a data strategy can help business thrive. Bernard explains in a good way all the content of the course through very descriptive images. Totally recommended !

This course is just great ! It is well conceived, well structed and well delivered. Do I have to say more? Nevertheless, it seems to me that some multiple choice questions could be added to the end of each section. This would certainly help to make the students more confident that they have master the section's contents adequately.

I enjoyed the course more than I thought I would. I got a lot of insights from the various points and tips regarding analytics, data strategy and ways to use big data as a service. I also found very interesting how to access free data that is available. I highly recommend to anyone interested in understanding what data strategy is all about and how to effectively apply it
