Information seems outdated, and far away from Subdevelopment economical Theory from Celso Furtado, or Monopoly's economical theory from Jean Tirole and the power of the unregulated markets. And Shumpeter it's very clear about the Capitalism, as a inestable system to maintain the rules of the free competence. And talk about the Creative-Destruction without mention that or mention the importance of the entrepreneur and innovation on the market, it's a citation out of context. So, as a conclusion: surely PhD Spence today will be critic with this 2015 video record.

Taking this course on “The Economic Model of Emerging Countries” was a very positive experience for me. It matched well with both my interests and my professional context. Even though I don’t work directly in economics, many of the themes like global growth patterns, developing‑country challenges, information asymmetries, and regional dynamics—gave me a clearer understanding of the broader economic environment that influences business and policy decisions. I especially appreciated how the course broke down complex ideas into short, focused modules. Sections like “The economy of developing countries”, “Africa and the ‘lacking’ growth”, and “The long march of the Chinese Giant” helped me connect global trends with real‑world situations. The concise format made it easy to follow and absorb without feeling overwhelmed. Overall, yes. This course was a good match for me. It expanded my perspective, strengthened my analytical understanding of emerging markets, and helped me see how global economic forces shape opportunities and challenges, even in my own region. I feel more confident discussing these topics and relating them to professional conversations.

I didn't like history in school because it was all about years and names of people and battles that we had to learn by heart. I wish all our history lessons were like this course. I started it not sure I was going to be able to focus (around midnight) and have devoured every video. Michael's way of going through history and explaining is very engaging and inspiring to connect even more dots on my own. Thank you!

I have been through half the content of this course so far and I think it is brilliant. The course is well-structured and well-delivered, as such it is easy to follow and understand. The brief duration of each topic also allows one to concentrate and remain engaged fully. I also appreciate just how much I have learnt in a short period of time. Thank you.

This course is really great and interesting. This a great opportunity to learn from Michael Spence. This course will be good for you even if you don't have advanced knowledge in economics, this course is a broad outlook on the emerging economies, it also does not go to mathematical details of economic models.

I enjoyed this course a lot. Mr Spence uses a language that is easy to understand even for economy enthusiasts or beginners in this field. His explanations are clear and concise and help to get the whole picture of a complex subject with good examples and without getting lost in details. The only reason I have not given 5 stars is the audio quality which was not flawless and I think a bit more work could have gone into visual content through presentations. But all in all, it is a great course indeed.
By Dinesh Mandal on 3/29/2020
Excellent lecture and knowledge rich content mixed up with the global context of the economic challenges, which may allow the students to look at world and their own national economics in a much wider perspective. Especially the lectures about the growth, leadership roles, wealth distribution and employment challenges are thoughtful.
By Michelle Rencher on 9/14/2016
Very insightful discussion. I choose to be optimistic regarding the opportunities afforded the state of the global economy. Having a wealth of experience in both developing/emerging and developed environments, I agree that we will as a global community accomplish tremendous feats in the coming years to level the playing field.
