Our take
Based on the ratings of 45,302 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in August 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.
Scott Duffy's course breaks down the EU AI Act, the first major law regulating artificial intelligence, in under an hour. Seventeen short lectures across seven sections cover why the law exists, its four risk categories (unacceptable, high, limited, minimal), and who has to comply. It's aimed less at lawyers and more at developers, compliance officers, and business leaders who need the plain-language version before a meeting or an audit.
Reviewers, over 45,000 of them, mostly call the explanations clear and well organized, and several say it helped them understand how to use AI responsibly at work. The gripes cluster around delivery: a few call it slide-heavy narration that feels flat, and ask for more concrete examples instead of theory. Others wanted a downloadable summary sheet with reference links, and non-English speakers say the subtitles and translation feel thin.
At under an hour and a low price, it's a fast way to get oriented rather than a deep compliance manual. The course was updated in August 2026, so the content reflects where the law stands now. Watch it once and you know the vocabulary and obligations well enough to ask the right follow-up questions in a meeting or an audit.
Pros
- Explains all four AI risk categories and compliance duties in under an hour
- Reviewers call the structure clear and easy to follow
- Comes with a certificate and was updated as recently as August 2026
- Useful across roles: developers, compliance officers, and business leads
Cons
- Delivery is slide narration some reviewers call flat or boring
- No downloadable summary sheet or reference links, despite requests
- Non-English-speaking reviewers say subtitles and translation feel thin
This training helps me to understand the EU AI Act and it's compliance and it's impact on business. The necessity of this low & penalty if not being followed this law.
Listed as all levels; works best for people with no legal background who want the plain-language version

This course is designed to give you a clear, practical overview of the EU AI Act without overwhelming you with legal jargon. In under an hour, you’ll learn how the Act works, why it was created, and what concrete steps organizations need to take to prepare. You’ll gain insight into both the “big picture” goals of the law and the practical, day-to-day impact on compliance, innovation, and business strategy.

Explain the scope, structure, and objectives of the EU AI Act
Understand the four AI risk categories (unacceptable, high, limited, minimal) and what they mean in practice
Recognize compliance obligations for providers, deployers, and users of AI systems

Whether you are a developer building AI systems, a business leader planning strategy, a compliance officer preparing for audits, or a policymaker following global trends, this course will give you the knowledge and confidence to navigate the EU AI Act effectively. You’ll walk away with a solid understanding of how the Act works, what it demands, and how to align your projects with its requirements, so you can stay ahead of the curve in this new era of AI regulation.

Scott Duffy
Hi there, my name is Scott Duffy. And I love making complex technical topics easy to understand.
This has been the basis of my entire career – as a developer, as a development manager, as a software architect – over the past 20 years. I spend half my time in the world of business, explaining complex technical topics to business owners and stakeholders so that they can understand and agree with my approach to solving their business problems with technical solutions. And the other half with developers, explaining the business reasons behind decisions and ensuring that any decisions made on the technical side don't restrict the business in unexpected ways.
And I'm here on Udemy to teach what I know in an approachable way. I started teaching courses in 2014, and have taught over 1,600,000 students. I am grateful every day for being able to connect with so many students in almost every country around the world.
I'm a certified Enterprise Architect and certified cloud architect. I have been developing with Microsoft technologies for 20 years, starting with Classic ASP, and all the versions of .NET. We now live in the cloud era, with Microsoft Azure being prevalent in most large enterprises. I'm certified as an Azure Architect and Developer too. As well as AWS Solution Architect Associate (SAA).
Microsoft MVP Award winner for 2022-2025.

Just completed The EU AI Act Explained: Compliance and Practical Impact. The course offered valuable insights into the evolving AI regulatory landscape, helping me better understand AI governance, compliance requirements, risk classification, and the responsibilities of organizations deploying AI solutions. A great learning opportunity for anyone looking to stay informed about the future of responsible AI.

This course requires constant response from the listener or viewer. Professionals who do multitasking do not have the time to sit in front of the video for so much time in order to complete this training. This training should continue in the background while the professionals can continue to do their work.

It's a useful, brief summarize of a big topic. Presented interestingly with well-coloured, practical examples. Only the key facts are listed here to get a very good overview. No not-needed details. Best for non-lawyers than me.

The AI Act is not just for businesses; all developers should strictly follow its principles to build trust between humans and AI. It also emphasizes respecting human rights, which is one of the most important aspects of developing responsible AI systems.
By Jessie Philip on 7/28/2026
Good course as it covers and answers all the basic questions that comes to one's mind when talking about AI and governance. Trustworthy AI is not about confining with the law but it about building reliable AI systems

It's good to understand there are dedicated regulations related to AI. The fact that there are now many lawsuits about AI violations says a lot. Curious what the future will look like. Personally I also would like to extend the act with environmental and also human guidelines... if people just keep relying on AI you become stupid.
By Michael Jakobsen on 7/17/2026
The spoken language and the speed of talking and presenting the material is good. There is time to reflect. The subject is relevant and using AI risk evaluation should be used in relevant prompts to be sure to risk evaluate and label the output as necessary.
By Joyce Harrison on 7/7/2026
Its important o be aware of the uses of AI, how its use is regulated and what we should be mindful of ... It would not take much to find ourselves in trouble if we were not paying attention to how we are using AI
