Course Description
Web scraping is the process of automatically downloading a web page's data and extracting specific information from it.
The extracted information can be stored in a database or as various file types.
Basic Scraping Rules:
Always check a website's Terms and Conditions before you scrape it to avoid legal issues.
Do not request data from a website too aggressively (spamming) with your program as this may break the website.
The layout of a website may change from time to time ,so make sure your code adapts to it when it does.
Popular web scraping tools include BeautifulSoup and Scrapy.
BeautifulSoup is a python library for pulling data (parsing) out of HTML and XML files.
Scrapy is a free open source application framework used for crawling web sites and extracting structured data
which can be used for a variety of things like data mining, research ,information process or historical archival.
Web scraping software tools may access the World Wide Web directly using the Hypertext Transfer Protocol, or through a web browser. While web scraping can be done manually by a software user, the term typically refers to automated processes implemented using a bot or web crawler. It is a form of copying, in which specific data is gathered and copied from the web, typically into a central local database or spreadsheet, for later retrieval or analysis.
Scraping a web page involves fetching it and extracting from it. Fetching is the downloading of a page (which a browser does when you view the page). to fetch pages for later processing. Once fetched, then extraction can take place. The content of a page may be parsed, searched, reformatted, its data copied into a spreadsheet, and so on. Web scrapers typically take something out of a page, to make use of it for another purpose somewhere else. An example would be to find and copy names and phone numbers, or companies and their URLs, to a list (contact scraping).
Web scraping is used for contact scraping, and as a component of applications used for web indexing, web mining and data mining, online price change monitoring and price comparison, product review scraping (to watch the competition), gathering real estate listings, weather data monitoring, website change detection, research, tracking online presence and reputation, web mashup and, web data integration.
Web pages are built using text-based mark-up languages (HTML and XHTML), and frequently contain a wealth of useful data in text form. . A web scraper is an Application Programming Interface (API) to extract data from a web site. Companies like Amazon AWS and Google provide web scraping tools, services and public data available free of cost to end users.

I am at the place in Udemy studies where this course fits right in, and I trust Bluelime to do their usual good job.

This is a good course for beginners but not for everyone that want to learn more of scrapy. it has some drawbacks, some material repeated again and again, and more advanced scraping and crawling aren't there. Overall thank you for creating this course, it's a good place to start learning web scraping

content was not organized well. no one respond to question you asked, doesn't full my job here for purchasing this course though learnt some new thing

It's really nice to have a course like this which explains everything in detail.
By Sunny Ho on 4/28/2021
The course could be even better if it covers more on navigating through tag elements and more in-depth explanation on scrapy. Readers looking for such details would be disappointed. Nevertheless, the rest of the contents is presented quite clear though one may want to play the videos at 1.25x or 1.5x.

If you are taking this course you already know what the internet and web are. You also likely know Python. Too much time is spent on these very basic concepts.
By Richard Giambrone on 4/4/2020
yes. it starts with basic definitions. i don't know anything about the topic, so it's helpful to start with the basics. it would be helpful to have the code used in the scripts available as a reference and summary notes. A good intro the HTML elements. It doesn't seem like the instructor is answering questions posted in the Q&A.

Nice graphics. Each module is short & sweet. The presenter does not ramble on. A nice breath of fresh air compare to most other udemy courses!

Good that the videos tend to run less than 10 minutes. I would not recommend this course for beginners. However, if you have worked with Request and BeutifulSoup and would like to try a more complicated approach, this is OK for your first exposure to Scrapy. A better title would be "A First Look at Scrapy with Python for Web Scraping". For beginners, this is very, very much more complicated than using the Request library with BeautifulSoup. The site in this example is a very simple static page. There was not even an example of a simple dynamic page that holds all of the data on the page. Scrapy might be more useful for more complex pages. It is not clear why such a lengthy discussion was included about HTML. Most of it was not relevant for this beginning scraping course. I really don't see why understanding CSS is in BEGINNING scraping. Section lesson 5 has way too much repetition of what was in lesson 4. Section 3 lesson 16, becasue we examined the source prior to writing the Python code, we know that there is only 1 quote and 1 author as children of the _ . So it is actually misleading to use indexing [0] for getting the text, because there is exactly 1 item in this list. Section 3 lessons 17 and 18, I see no reason to using the Python CLI when all of this could be done directly in VS Code and run line-by-line as he does in the CLI. I think that this type of project would be better implemented by wrapping much of the functionality in small functions. This enables testing each function independently and catching errors such as the spelling error in lesson 21. The functions can then be copied to the spider in lesson 27 and only minor modifications needed. Lesson 25 goes into a lot of detail about the scrapy components. Do we really need to know this as beginners?
