Instructor Details

Sam Shimizu-Jones

With a focus on cinematic beauty and human connection, Sam specializes in capturing peoples’ cultures and lifestyles.  His affinity for traveling has led him to work on productions of all types and sizes across the United States, Western Europe, Eastern Asia, Central and South America.  His travels abroad have taught him invaluable lessons in what it takes to capture stories while on the road.

Born and raised in the skateboard and surf culture of Santa Cruz, California, Sam found his passion for photography and filmmaking at a young age while making extreme sports videos with his friends. At Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film and Television, he was educated in many aspects of filmmaking but focused on cinematography, directing, and documentary film.  It was also during this time that he expanded his photography skills, working in the darkroom, printing 35mm film for the first time and taking photos for school's newspaper at various school events.

Today, Sam looks to further explore the art of photography and grow as a filmmaker, expand his production company, Will Call Cinematic and continue to explore cultures around the world.  He is lucky to call these two passions of his work and looks forward to learning the skills and knowledge he has learned with his students.

I am doing e-commerce, so this is very helpful. It’s very easy and simply to follow. I will be putting what I learn into practice immediately.

It was great, I've been working on product photography for 2 years now and this course made me feel more comfortable and confident with my abilities, either by expanding or confirming what i've been doing. Thank you!

Learnt a lot about product photography . I need to learn more about settings on the camera . As this is new to me. The camera shot light behind was so dark , hard to believe that could be used for website as could hardly see it. Rest Great , Thanks

The course goes into great detail with the scene settings expressed in a very clear and concise manner, although the chapter on Lifestyle Outdoor Editing Photography was rushed in parts. This course is a good introduction to product photography with lots of helpful advice.

By Can Onur Gunay on 4/29/2023

Please don’t stop the progress while you are explaining. Me personally liked the first chapter and last chapter. I will suggest.

By Grace Dusek on 5/23/2022

I appreciated this course because it truly was "for beginners" and explained some of the lingo/terms so I can at least speak intelligently or understand conversations surrounding photography. I like how I will be able to go back and watch some videos in pieces as if/when I physically start editing photos.

By Sean Kim on 11/19/2021

I feel like this course assumes that the viewer has some knowledge of photo editing software like Photoshop.

By Glenn Wootton on 8/26/2021

They do a great job of balancing explanation with demo. The set up is looks easy and they provide options that I will try. Wording is kept simple enough and good for average person.
