Two Hours of Essentials to Get Started on Premiere Pro Right Now

Our take
Based on the ratings of 425 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in November 2025. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a free, two-hour tour of Premiere Pro from editor Jeff Napolitano. The 27 short lectures move through importing, cutting, audio, titles and lower thirds, cropping, motion and opacity keyframes, green screen keying and exporting for YouTube. Lectures average under five minutes. The stated audience is beginners, but the reviews suggest it suits people who have already poked around the interface and want to know what the main tools do, not someone who has never opened the program. About 13,000 students have enrolled, and the course was refreshed in late 2025.
Most of the 425 reviews are positive, with roughly four in five giving four or five stars. Fans call it clear, concise and exactly the fast pass the title promises, and a couple say they came in knowing nothing and left able to cut the video they needed. The complaints are consistent, though. Low-star reviewers say the narration moves too fast, assumes viewers already know where tools live, and says click over here without explaining where here is. Others mention quiet audio, distracting background music, and poor screen recording quality. One reviewer wished for real footage to play with while following along, so students should expect to bring their own.
At free and two hours, the cost of finding out is low. Next to the longer Premiere courses it sits beside on our list, this is the quick option, not the thorough one, and it doesn't offer a certificate. Watch it if you have footage waiting and want the shortest route to a rough cut with titles and decent audio. If the low-star reviews sound like you, pick one of the longer beginner courses instead and come back to this one as a refresher.
Pros
- Free, and the whole thing fits in a single two-hour sitting
- Covers the practical set: cutting, audio levels, titles, keyframes, green screen and export
- Reviewers praise the concise explanations and a pace that feels right for the impatient
- Refreshed in November 2025, so the interface should match current Premiere
Cons
- Several low-star reviews say it assumes prior knowledge and moves too fast for true beginners
- Quiet narration, background music and poor screen recording quality come up in complaints
- No practice footage, quizzes or certificate
The course is very well structured, the teacher explains each topic in a consice and clear way and the pace is just right.
Labeled beginner with no prerequisites, but it fits best if you have at least opened Premiere and can find the timeline and tool panel.

Course Description
Import Footage will teach you the basic ways to import footage and options in your project bin.
Cut Footage use the razor blade tool or trim off the ends with other tools.
Make Titles and add motion and colorizing effects to make them stand out.
Make Lower Thirds and use the simple title to change the graphics by selecting different font choices to give you very cool graphics quickly.
Audio Techniques from voiceovers to interview footage to a/b roll and unlinking audio from video. Adjust the levels of volume and learn the audio meters and waveforms.
Cropping Effects are used to take out the edges of titles or graphics. Keyframes are added to make these cropping lines move to animate their way to and from the edge of a graphic to its center.
Scaling is used to make things smaller or larger.
Motion can be found under the Effect controls Tab. Use the X and Y coordinates to position the subject. Add the Keyframes to program where it will stop and start.
Opacity determines how much a video or graphic layer will be seen or not seen. Take it down from 100% to 50% and you'll be able to see through it to whatever is on the next video track.
Effect Filters are an easy way to make something happen right away, but how are they used and what can they do are the questions we will answer in this course.
More: Each lesson has a wide range of valuable information you can use for your editing projects. Quick mini-lessons with a concept in mind. Get the basics and some cool tricks to get going quickly.

I've been editing videos for several universities, YouTubers, and businesses. I've learned so many things about Premiere Pro and video editing. While I teach, I also learn from video editors I work with who share their ways of editing. I've realized that there are many ways to edit!
There is the tech side, all about the buttons and windows in the program, and then there is the end result on the screen. I've learned that you have to decide what is important to you, but your audience will only care in the end what they're watching on the screen, whatever screen that may be may also dictate the type of editing required. Knowing your audience is a must to be successful. They usually only care about what they want to see, and even though you can edit, that may not matter to them.
I graduated with a degree in film, teaching credential, and Master's in education. My passion with Premiere has enabled me to teach this program to elementary, middle school, high school students and beyond!
Hopefully, this Adobe Premiere Pro course can deliver the skills you need to become the professional video editor you want to be.

It was a very good tutorial. I had to edit a video and I did not know how. I get it now; this is so simple that I thought I only needed to study for a day. But this helped me! Thank you so much for this tutorial! Keep it up!

I really liked the overview that this course provides. Sometimes it was hard for my eye to follow the mouse quiclly to see exactly what the instructor was clicking on - but otherwise, I appreciated that this was not a step-by-step project based course. I prefer to just observe and then reference later as I am working.
By Andrew Bale on 5/2/2020
The narration is far too quick and assumes too much knowledge. It would be much easier to have real footage to play with and copy what the narrator says. the music in the background is distracting and unnecessary.
By Connor Gatten on 3/24/2020
Great for beginners but he did duplicate some of the videos in different sections. Example Section 4 Video 18 (Making a split screen) is the same video for Section 3 Video 13 (Cropping video)

Awesome course for beginner or intermediate level learning. I have walked away from this course a better understanding of the software. I hope to see this instructor produce more videos maybe something a bit more advanced!
