Course Description

This course is about the fundamental concepts of artificial intelligence and meta-heuristics with Python. This topic is getting very hot nowadays because these learning algorithms can be used in several fields from software engineering to investment banking. Learning algorithms can recognize patterns which can help detecting cancer for example. We may construct algorithms that can have a very  good guess about stock price movement in the market.

  • depth-first search stack memory visualization

  • maze escape application

Section 3 - A* Search Algorithm

  • what is A* search algorithm

  • what is the difference between Dijkstra's algorithm and A* search

  • what is a heuristic

  • Manhattan distance and Euclidean distance

### META-HEURISTICS ###

### PYTHON PROGRAMMING CRASH COURSE ###

  • Python programming fundamentals

  • basic data structures

  • fundamentals of memory management

  • object oriented programming (OOP)

  • NumPy

In the first chapters we are going to talk about the fundamental graph algorithms - breadth-first search (BFS), depth-first search (DFS) and A* search algorithms. Several advanced algorithms can be solved with the help of graphs, so in my opinion these algorithms are crucial.

The next chapters are about heuristics and meta-heuristics. We will consider the theory as well as the implementation of simulated annealing, genetic algorithms and particle swarm optimization - with several problems such as the famous N queens problem, travelling salesman problem (TSP) etc.

Holczer Balazs

My name is Balazs Holczer. I am from Budapest, Hungary. I am qualified as a physicist. At the moment I am working as a simulation engineer at a multinational company. I have been interested in algorithms and data structures and its implementations especially in Java since university. Later on I got acquainted with machine learning techniques, artificial intelligence, numerical methods and recipes such as solving differential equations, linear algebra, interpolation and extrapolation. These things may prove to be very very important in several fields: software engineering, research and development or investment banking. I have a special addiction to quantitative models such as the Black-Scholes model, or the Merton-model.

Take a look at my website if you are interested in these topics!

처음 메타휴리스틱 수업을 듣고 있는데, 쉬운 설명과 실습을 통해서 많이 배우고 있습니다. 좋은 강의 감사합니다.

I studied computer science with focus on machine learning. In uni we basically focused on representation learning and every kind of downstream task built on top of that. This course on the other hand teaches you a lot of stuff that you will not learn when just focusing on representation learning (or prompt engineering as many people tend to focus on nowadays...). Maybe not the best course from an objective POV, because those topics are covered - but you can find them basically in every other course. This course is a bit more unique and from my subjective perspective it was definitely worth it.

Python kodları daha detaylı açıklanmalı. Başlangıç seviyesi için zorlayıcı.

By Zhi Yi on 4/24/2024

Love it. All codes are explained in such detailed manner. I've grasped the concepts well.

By Thorsten Rasmussen on 6/28/2023

Interesting content that was well-presented. Would have liked more in-depth explanation of applications, pros and cons, convergence properties and similar details for the algorithms instead of spending so much time on going over implementation of code. Also would have appreciated more exercises.

By John Lee on 6/10/2023

Very useful lesson to me and the tutorial explains the course well.

By Byron on 4/6/2023

Holczer is brilliant. This is wonderful stuff. Best explanation of BFS I've ever seen.

By Kathleen Yu on 12/21/2022

Good lesson. Would be good to have an intro on graph principles first though.

By Yusif İmamverdiyev on 10/4/2022

The best course, Clear explanation, clear implementation.

By Günter Grau on 10/2/2022

Quite interesting and mostly easy to follow. Sometimes maybe too many repetitions. The last section was a bit harder to follow, maybe because the first real example comes late. Examples are well chosen
