Our take
Based on the ratings of 1,755 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in September 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.
Vasco Cavalheiro teaches this router-only course under the Angular University name. It runs about 9.7 hours across 79 lectures and starts from an existing app with no routing, then adds lazy loading, child routes, parameters, resolvers, guards, preloading and router events. The current listing is built around signals, standalone components and functional guards, and the data shows an update in September 2026. It assumes you already know basic Angular, TypeScript and dependency injection.
Praise is steady. Reviewers call Vasco knowledgeable and clear, and say the explanations are detailed and easy to follow. One likes the newer format with more explanation and less typing. The complaints are about age. Several reviews from 2024 to early 2026 say the content did not match the version in the title, with deprecated pieces like CanLoad and class-based resolvers still on screen, and a couple of people felt misled. Most of those were written before the September 2026 update. One reviewer also wanted more real-life projects.
The numbers are solid: a 4.6 average from 1,755 reviews, with over 1,600 of the ratings at four or five stars, and nearly 18,000 students. There are no quizzes or coding exercises, so practice means working through the repo yourself. For developers who want router depth and are fine with a lecture-and-follow-along style, it is a good pick. Beginners should learn core Angular first.
Pros
- Covers guards, resolvers, preloading, router events and view transitions in one place
- Reviewers say Vasco explains clearly and in detail, with concise examples
- Starts from an app with no routing and has a GitHub repo with start branches to follow
- Uses signals, standalone components and functional guards, updated September 2026
Cons
- No quizzes or coding exercises, so practice is whatever you do in the repo
- Older reviews report deprecated APIs and content that did not match the version in the title
- One reviewer wanted more practical, real-life project examples
Vasco knows his stuff and is very knowledgeable on the subject, with clear, concise, examples and great coverage of the subject matter.
Fits intermediate Angular developers. It asks for basic Angular, TypeScript and dependency injection despite the All Levels tag.

Course Description
This course is a modern, signals-based deep dive into the Angular Router, built on standalone components and zoneless change detection. It comes with a running Github repo
This Course In a Nutshell
The Angular Router is one of the least well-known parts of Angular once you dig beyond the basics. Most developers learn the essentials and stop there — not because they don't need more, but because the deeper features are rarely documented in one place or explained in a way that makes their purpose clear.
This course is a deep dive into that lesser-known territory. It covers a wide range of powerful features that solve real, recurring problems in Angular applications — problems that are otherwise surprisingly difficult to handle cleanly. Many of these features have been sitting in the router for years, quietly waiting to be discovered.
Everything is built on modern Angular — standalone components, signals, zoneless change detection, functional guards and resolvers — so the patterns you learn here are the ones that will last.
Course Overview
The router is not just one more Angular feature among many — it is the skeleton of the entire application. It determines how the app is structured, how pages load, how data reaches components, and how users move through the product. Getting it right matters more than almost anything else in an Angular application.
And yet, the router is far more feature-rich than most developers realise. Beyond the basics of routes and navigation links lies a large surface area of capabilities — many of them little known, and most of them genuinely useful once you know they exist. Features that make certain hard problems surprisingly easy.
In this course we take a pragmatic, hands-on approach. We start with an existing application with no routing at all, and we progressively configure every routing scenario you are likely to encounter in a real Angular project — from the simplest redirect to the most advanced navigation patterns.
We start from scratch and build up the route configuration step by step. We cover the essentials — lazy loading, route parameters, resolvers, navigation links, child routes — and then keep going into the parts that courses usually skip: the full guard system in all its variations, the many ways to pass data during navigation, powerful configuration options that change how the router behaves globally or per-navigation, preloading, router events, outlet lifecycle, and deep signals integration.
By the end, you will have a complete picture of what the Angular Router can do — and just as importantly, you will know which tool to reach for in each situation, and which ones to avoid.
Table of Contents
This course covers the following topics:
Router setup with provideRouter and feature functions
Functional redirects — redirectTo as a function receiving params and query params
Lazy loading with loadComponent and loadChildren
Navigation with routerLink, routerLinkActive, and ariaCurrentWhenActive
Route parameters and withComponentInputBinding — params, query params, and resolved data as component inputs
Resolvers — ResolveFn, skipping HTTP with navigation state
Child routes, nested outlets, and relativeTo navigation
Route-scoped providers — services created and destroyed with a route subtree
Query parameters and queryParamsHandling (preserve, merge)
canActivate — authentication guard with redirect to login and return URL
canActivateChild — protecting an entire child route subtree
canDeactivate — unsaved-changes confirmation dialog; bypassing the guard with info
canMatch — feature-flag guard and auth guard; difference from canActivate
Navigation extras: state, info, replaceUrl, skipLocationChange, browserUrl
RedirectCommand — redirecting with state from a guard
Router configuration: paramsInheritanceStrategy, onSameUrlNavigation, urlUpdateStrategy
withInMemoryScrolling and scroll position restoration
Custom preloading strategy — data-driven preloading with route data
Router events — NavigationStart/End/Cancel/Error, RouteConfigLoadStart/End
Building a navigation-aware loading indicator using router events
RouterOutlet lifecycle: (activate) and (deactivate) events
ROUTER_OUTLET_DATA — passing reactive signal data from parent outlet to child component
UrlMatcher — matching routes by numeric ID or slug
Signals integration — isActive signal, withViewTransitions
withNavigationErrorHandler — redirecting to a 404 page on resolver errors
Named outlets — how they work and why to avoid them
What Will You Learn In this Course?
At the end of this course, you will have a thorough, practical understanding of the Angular Router — from the foundational concepts to the most advanced features available in modern Angular.
You will know how to configure guards, resolvers, lazy loading, and preloading strategies correctly, and you will understand exactly what each guard type does differently so you can pick the right one for every situation.
You will be confident working with the signals-based Angular APIs and integrating router state into your components reactively, without workarounds or manual subscriptions.

- I just use "ng update" to align version in package.json (I opened pull requests to update master and 1-start branch) - I preferred that to start "git checkout 1-start" then "git checkout feature/1-start" to be sure first branch could be reused later. I use second one. I Proceed in this way from I know Angular-university (Thanks to exists) - Why you don't use vitest instead karma/jasmine (official in @angular 21) - I use also cypress for e2e test (protactor deprecated from 2023)

It was a good match in terms of information provided, common mistakes, how angular framework behaves in different scenarios. Only request is that the content perhaps is not updated regularly as some of the interfaces that are used are deprecated such as Resolve, CanLoad, CanDeactivate and it does not contain any information on what should be the correct way to implement. Hopefully this will be updated in near future.

The basic sections were good but the more advanced sections did not have enough explanation for some of the concepts and how different use cases might be done especially in a corporate application. It would be nice if the course showed how to implement role authorisation in practice. Overall I like Vasco's courses but because angular 17 has deprecated ALOT that is shown here I can't practice with the right information. So hopefully the course gets updated to show the new method of using functions.

The instructor goes over the key points of Angular Route, with a well-ordered real-life app example to look for if you need to consult them before. Although he gives you advanced topics for particular cases that may be useful to you if you have a particular situation or need to optimize a larger application.

The course explains the Angular Router very good. It's a little sad, that a few tasks aren't updated for newer Angular version. So it's hard to follow, when Resolver, the CanLoad or the malformedUriErrorHandler are deprecated. I needed to google a lot to find the correct way to implement it for new applications with a higher Angular version. But all in all were all the functions of the router very good explained, understandable and I liked the example application.

As always, Vasco gives us a deep knowledge of the Angular platform which has a lot of hidden quirks that can be used to make our lives easier, highly recommend it to help implement a user-friendly environment for your applications. The only downside is that some of the functionalities are deprecated, such as Resolvers and some of the router ExtraOptions, but I'm sure that will be updated sooon.

Excellent course scoped to the Angular router specifically. The course covered the only topic I was interested at the moment, meaning the Angular router. Generally, other courses cover all Angular related topics in one course, which makes it hard to concentrate on specific topics. This is what makes this course unique and extremely helpful. Thanks Vasco!

In general one of the better courses I found on Udemy. Except for one small section in one of the later lessons, all the provided code was clear and it worked out of the box. The author gave very clear descriptions and took the time to explain why he was doing certain things in a certain way. I really enjoyed the course and would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn more about the Angular Router.

Excellent course. Understood even the granular detail on how the activeRouterLink is still active when we move to another child routes or how can i create a secondary outlet or a named outlet. And all that you need for lazy loading, custom preloading strategy, how to allow navigation to a Url, only to authenticated user and also the opposite of triggering canDeactive if we want navigate away from a url

Hello Vasco, This is a great course, and I enjoyed it much, and learned a lot, but there is a little flaw. If you don't exercise what you have learnt there is a little to no effect of it. So, please add to each section of your course exercises for the students. Let them to really try and reinforce the knowledge of the new features and thus remember of what they have learnt. Thank you very much. You are gifted instructor.
