Course Description
This Course In a Nutshell
If you already know Angular, and would now like to dive deeper into the Angular ecosystem and learn Angular SSR (Server-Side Rendering), then this is the right course for you!
Notice that Angular SSR was formerly known as Angular Universal, but the package and the feature itself was eventually renamed to Angular SSR.
In this course, we are going to learn Angular SSR from first principles, by taking an existing Angular single page application and converting it into an Angular Server-Side Rendered Application.
We will focus not only on the server-side capabilities of server-side rendering, but we will also cover in detail build-time pre-prerendering and its advantages compared to server-side rendering.
We will learn how to optimize our application for initial startup performance by using a fine-grained Application Shell and the State Transfer API, and we will make the application SEO (search engine optimization) and social-media friendly.
We will then deploy it to production using Google App Engine and see the end result!
Course Overview
We will kick-start this course by going over in detail on the advantages of using Angular SSR in our application.
After this, we will go ahead and take an existing Angular Application, and using the Angular CLI we will generate a SSR bundle that will allow us to render the application on the server side.
We will cover in detail all the latest Angular SSR command line functionality, including running Angular SSR in development mode, pre-rendering both static and dynamic routes.
After seeing the command line tools in action, we are going to understand exactly how Angular SSR works under the hood, by reviewing the auto-generated Express engine created by the Angular CLI. This will allow us to understand in detail how universal rendering works, and it will give us a lot of flexibility if needed.
Once we have our Angular Express application up and running, we will then make it SEO and social-media friendly.
We will then apply a couple of common performance optimizations that are commonly used in Angular Universal applications: we will implement from scratch a fine-grained Application shell, and we will also reduce the number of HTTP requests that the application does at startup time by using the State Transfer API.
We will then take our fully optimized Angular SSR application and we will deploy it to productionusing Google App Engine for Node.
What Will you Learn In this Course?
At the end of this course, you will feel comfortable taking your existing Angular Application and turning it into a server side Angular SSR application
You will understand the benefits of server-side rendering, and you will be able to optimize your application for both search engines and social media crawlers
You will also know how to further optimize your application for performance, and you will know how to deploy it to production in two different scenarios: pre-rendered apps and runtime server-side rendered apps

it's fine not that in depth course no doubt he explains really well , but it's just 1 hour course which is made to 4 hours plus the code, I cloned was different from what he was working upon, I didn't had angular.module.ts file only in which he made all those changes. Couldn't work in parallel to him as he instructed in the beginning of the course

This is well explained and percise. There are some version gaps but overall that course was geat for undestanding SSR in depth and all of its implementaions and use cases in real live application

Thank you Vasco for this course! This course provides a good overview of Angular SSR. Vasco provides clear and detailed explanations. I like these types of courses that focus on a specific subject. We start from an observation, we apply a solution and we see the result. The advantages and disadvantages are discussed. Each lesson is independent and can be viewed without having to revise those that precede it. It may seem repetitive if you watch the entire course in one go. As noted in other reviews, there are also some topics that could have been covered: - “afterRender” and “afterNextRender” lifecycle hooks: how do they work and when should they be used? - “ngSkipHydration” attribute: how does it work and when should it be used? - How to force a component or page (with browser-only APIs like scrolling) to be rendered only client-side (like the Astro "client:*" directive)? Indeed we cannot use the "*appShellNoRender" directive in the router file. - When adding "@angular/ssr" to an existing project, what steps should be taken into account? Why the "app.config.ts" and "app.config.server.ts" files are so important.

It's an excellent course. I needed a course that would help me take my first steps in this area. It was a bit challenging in some parts because English is not my native language, but the knowledge gained is invaluable.

Explanations and examples were very clear and sufficient, but I missed some words for B2B applications, which, I think, most people in Udemy will be looking for, as they tend to be more complex than simple static webs. As senior developer, I was looking for this kind of info, I don't really care for SEO positioning or web crawlers. But it's a good introduction anyway.

I have expected some additional words about deploying on my own "browser" and "server" part, without webpack etc... the whole course was based on provided commands from universal and no additional info except that part that if I serve prerendered static page then I can use only "browser" part, so it was fine info, but still no more info about compiling server on our own with tsc etc. I hope 4,5 is still good, and thank you for that course.

You could tell more about those files with css, polyfills etc. The worst was firebase part. A this point app started to crush for me. :) After compiling code from 2-express-engine-finished branch i had "Internal Server Error" message after entering my firebase hosting. Dunno why, dunno how. But course had a few nice, new things for me. Regards.

The instructor is very responsive. I really like the course content. I especially liked how the instructor first explains the problem at hand and then goes about solving it and then shows the outcome of the solution. Case in point : Meta tag explanation and the prerender.ts code's purpose. Fantastic !!!!

This is not the first courses I watch from this guy and he is awesome! I would highly recommend this as well as other courses such as SECURITY or RxJS. Knows his craft and most examples can be used in developing production apps with some minor adjustments. Thank you for creating great content!
