AngularJS Custom Directives with Dan Wahlin (Udemy.com)

The link() Function section could use more explanations of why code is used when it's used.

Overall the course was good and Dan knows this topic inside and out. Some of the latter topics were advanced for sure and beyond my experience at this point. It was good for exposure though.

Some things are a bit outdated and won't work correctly in the latest version, but this course is still great and you'll learn a ton. Just keep in mind that some things don't work exactly the same now. But the fact is there are no AngularJS courses on Udemy that are totally up to date, and Dan's course is among the very best.
It would be great if the course were re-visited and updated here and there to be 100% valid today. Even add new videos to cover the latest additions. Yes, AngularJS has been replaced by Angular (2+) but it's still very relevant when I post this in 2019, as many companies still use it for older apps and they hire people to maintain them.

Good course, however I have one issue (loosing the 5th star) : the course isn't upgraded for the last version of Angular (1.7 as of now) so, some things are not working in the exemples. My main problem was with the controllerAs syntax which NEEDS you to implement a $onInit function in your controler if you want to initialize some data according to your isolated scope.

I had high hopes for this course, but I came away disappointed and a bit frustrated because the course did not deliver on the promise made in the lecture 3. The instructor stated that "it will be pretty hands-on", but in my view, it was not that at all. This instructor does what a lot of my least favorite instructors do, which is to take code-snippets (big chunks of code) and slap them into the program and tell you to go and look at it if you want to understand what's going on. He does try to go over some of the logic he used in the examples, but by the time he finishes explaining, you've completely lost the Angular part of what you were supposed to be learning. I personally prefer smaller programs that don't get in the way of the main topic. I don't care about the little grid program he built. Or the Google Maps API or whatever other contrived example, I just want to focus on the course material. Of course, examples are needed, but smaller, more focused examples that don't veer too far away from the topic. To be honest, there's mostly listening and watching, and not much doing in this series. You can pause the video and go study the example code, but good luck remembering what you came here to learn. I powered through to get to the end, because I paid $15, so what the heck.. But I wish Udemy instructors would get away from this style of teaching. Yeah, its easier for them to copy and paste and just talk the whole time, but it doesn't lend itself to following along which is the best way to learn.
Finally, the instructor doesn't go in depth with each topic. He sort of glazes over the definition of subject matter then goes into these contrived, long-winded examples that are pre-written for the most part and the other parts are pasted in. The Angular.js documentation is confusing and hard to understand. The kind of course I was hoping this was going to be was one where we go in-depth to understand each topic thoroughly. Then to do some light code examples to solidify understanding.

It would be better if the instructor write the code line by line and explain. He directly copy paste code and started explaining the whole things and runs.

The lecture is definitely good and knows well about what he is teaching. It's just the pacing it too fast, and how the samples works should be shown before the real codes, otherwise it's very confusing. Also, it would be great if the course can use one practical sample to cover multiple key points. Many small non-practical samples covering one key point each will make me think the meaning of the points.

This is a great course. It's quite advanced. I feel great having worked my way through it. Dan Wahlin is a truly impressive developer.
