Course Description

Hi there!

You want to prepare to your Kafka Job Interview?
Or just want to know how Kafka works inside?

You are in good company!
My name is Anatolii and I am a Software Developer in the Internet of Things.
Every second we receive tons of data from our sensors and we've chosen Kafka as a backbone of our distributed backend application.

In this course, I am using my practical experience of running Apache Kafka in production and describe in detail the Architecture of Kafka and the motivation behind it.

This course is for you if:

  • you want to prepare for a Kafka Job Interview questions

  • you want to make better architectural decisions for your messaging system

  • more easily debug production issues with Kafka

  • or just want to know how Kafka is built inside.

    We will cover:

  • Consumer Groups and rebalancing of partitions across Consumers

  • Replication of data in Kafka for redundancy and recovery

  • Different options to clean space in Kafka (delete or compact the logs)

  • Batching and compressing messages

  • Fault tolerance in Kafka Cluster

  • Rebalance protocol

  • Static membership

  • Incremental Cooperative Rebalance

We will also run Kafka in Docker to investigate Kafka files and their structure.

In this dense course, I've combined information from these primary sources:

  • The actual Kafka code

  • Kafka Improvement Proposals (KIP) - internal discussions in the Kafka community that describe the feature before its implementation

  • and of course, the knowledge I received personally from running Kafka in High Load production

If you want to know how Kafka is built or get prepared for your Kafka Job Interview I am glad to see you on the course!

Good coverage of Kafka internals and architecture. I was a little bit confused about the absence of an intro, but it's optional. Content is very good and above expectations.

By Marco Brunetti on 12/24/2024

The course is certainly held by a competent person, the problem is that the subtitles have not been set, for example in Italian and not even the automatic translation, in this way it is difficult to follow. I recommend thinking about this thing for the next courses.

Absolute gem of a course by Anatoli ! Anyone running Kafka applications in production will be hugely benefited from this course !

By Raju Samala on 11/17/2022

Course covered only theory basic level only. i was expected total internal architecture(how threads communication works) and how compaction works internally missing. Not covered production challenges and recommended fixes. And not covered latest changes Kraft, ZK details. No practical examples... just reading configuration details not enought to get full insights. How can troubleshoot more on producer, consume and cluster environment. No monitoring details covered.

By Daniil Selivanov on 4/4/2022

This is a pretty well-structured course. Gives you enough overview of kafka architecture. Would suggest it to anyone who wants to start learning kafka or to recall it. Thanks to the lecturer!

use subtitles for people struggling to understand the accent of the tutor.

Compared to a different course on Kafka on Udemy I tried, this course really fit my needs (intermediate), was always to the point (but repeated things when beneficial), didn't have any unnecessary overhead and made everything easy to understand.

By Tamás Belinszky on 9/20/2021

I really liked the faces of consumers. I already had some basic understanding about kafka, and I think this course will be very useful for me to dive deeper.

By Aliaksandr Sviatokha on 7/17/2021

Pretty good explanation of core concepts and parameters for people who already have some basic understanding of Kafka.

By Serhii Bondar on 5/17/2021

The course give details on how kafka is working, starting from the very basic things. Like the way the course is structured.
