Course Description

This course shows you how to get an Arduino developer account, install the required drivers and use the Editor tools on your MAC/PC and teaches you how to write programs and download them on the Arduino UNO circuit board. If you are a beginner, that is OK because I will start from the very begining explaining along the way as you build up the knowledge to write your own well structured programs. If you are an experienced programmer that is new to Arduino you can also get a lot out of this class because you can skip the trial and error phase I went through figuring out how all this works. So what are you waiting for, let's get programming!

I Graduated in 1990 with a B.S. in Computer Engineering. My first 14 years I worked at an engineering consulting firm developing Ethernet print servers, terminal servers, and Ethernet Bridges. I worked on the PCB and low level microcode but mostly FPGA/ASIC logic design. Next, I moved on to video camera development where I've written user interface microcode but mostly focus on FPGA logic design that handles  component communications and all the image processing from the imager through to the  display. I've always enjoyed collecting evaluation/development boards, so when I came across the Arduino platform, I realized it was something special - so easy and quick to develop on. I needed to put together a class to share this interest with others!

Hello Niles, Your course was very instructive at the beginning and about two-thirds of the way through. How to obtain information regarding the instruction set for Arduino on what syntax programming terms/definitions and applying them to a sketch were very comprehensive. As mentioned before there was a lack of information on programs instruction in the latter part which I assume after you had shown prospective students how to find this information then it was up to them. It would have been nice to know what components we should have as a preecquiste in your outlining presentation for your course. Overall it was very instructive for a student to basically have an understanding of how to formulate basic Arduino Programing. Thank you very much for all your help in me completing this course with Discovering Arduino Programming. Cheers, Millard Alexander

I have a little experience with the Arduino and this is a Great little refresher for me, the tutor has a Good, practical teaching style. The course is good as it shows how to use a number of sensors with the Arduino. I'd recommend this course to anyone with a little programming / electronics experience or aptitude.

The course give a quick view of the programming possibilities with the Arduino board by showing different examples with some peripherals. It also shows how to look for information on the Arduino online guide, which is in my opinion a good idea to learn how to help yourself, when programming something new.

Would be better If the goals were explained at the beginning. He does build well one module to the next but it is a little repetitive. I've been following along without the hardware but he has managed to keep me engaged. He does show you how to discover the functions as you go so my earlier comments are probably a little unfair. All up I would have paid something for that short lecture.

I started the course but flipped to the .pdf that came with my UNO R3 kit. I started following that. I'm not sure why I did this, but I did. In effect I learned what I needed from that. So when I returned to the video, I'd already progressed. However, if I'd not done that, this course would have been a good introduction. Also, I did learn where the schematic diagram of the device was and a few other bits. All in all, it's good. With a level 2 and perhaps a level 3 would be good.

I was impressed with the Web Editors function and how much it can support you regarding the details of the commands and the explanation of the code. I was not using it on my charts, I was just typing everything in by hand, its copy and past feature was impressive. The Instructers pace for the course made me focus more although I was forced to go over some sections a few of times - just my lack of knowledge caused that. A really good course...I will be doing reruns until I feel more comfortable with all it has delivered.

Great clear explanation, thank you for demystifying the Arduino coding process for me. It would be a bit easier for students to understand the coding if you leave the grayed comments out so that they can focus purely on the code, I get a bit confused trying to read between the comment lines, it is valuable to add them as best practice, but for the understanding of the code, it is better to just focus on the code IMHO.

Porque explica desde un principio, pero al no poseer conocimiento alguno sobre programación, cuesta seguirle el hilo un poco. Si hace un video con las referencias seria excelente.

So far, it's a very good course on basic introduction to getting started with Arduino boards, what's required and the components used to demonstrate Arduino functionality. provides step by step instructions from an absolute beginners perspective which makes this subject easy to learn and implement. Look forward to what's in store in the rest of the lectures and some of the advanced features of Arduino.
