Course Description
Artificial Intelligence is transforming healthcare, yet many healthcare professionals struggle to understand what AI really is, how it evolved, and what it may mean for the future of healthcare.
This course is designed to help you build a practical foundation in Artificial Intelligence so you can better understand today's technologies—and evaluate the innovations that will emerge tomorrow.
Using plain language and real-world examples, I explain how AI evolved from early rule-based systems to machine learning, Generative AI, ChatGPT, and emerging Agentic AI technologies. Along the way, you'll learn how machines learn from data, why AI behaves differently from traditional computer systems, and where both the strengths and limitations of AI originate.
No technical background or programming experience is required. I assume no prior knowledge and focus on helping you understand concepts rather than algorithms or coding.
While the course explores current healthcare applications, its primary goal is to help you develop a framework for thinking about AI. Technology will continue to evolve rapidly, but a solid understanding of the underlying principles will help you evaluate new tools, assess opportunities and risks, and make more informed decisions throughout your career.
In this course, you will learn:
• How Artificial Intelligence evolved from traditional rule-based systems to modern AI
• The differences between traditional computing and AI systems
• The fundamentals of machine learning and why data matters
• How Generative AI, ChatGPT, and Agentic AI fit into the broader AI landscape
• Common misconceptions, limitations, and risks associated with AI
• Why AI systems can produce inaccurate or misleading results
• Current and emerging healthcare applications of AI
• The opportunities and challenges AI presents for healthcare organizations, providers, and patients
By the end of this course, you will have a practical understanding of AI's evolution, current capabilities, and future direction—providing a foundation that will help you navigate one of the most significant technological transformations in healthcare.

Excellent course! The recent updates on Agentic AI were especially valuable and helped bring the content up to date with the latest AI developments. The new section on clinical applications was practical, relevant, and easy to understand. A great introduction to AI in healthcare.

I thought it was very interesting but I was hoping for more information about how to improve my physician life with AI but apparently that's part of the expectation chasm talked about in the course.

Yes, I appreciate hearing things explained in a straightforward, 'plain and simple' way, by someone who seems about my own age. It is quite encouraging to think that I can fit into this new AI world and contribute.

This course offers a valuable and concise overview. While much of the content is presented at a high-level, the instructor provides relevant, real-life examples and scenarios that enhance understanding. I was hoping for a more in-depth exploration of AI, particularly in its application to healthcare. Nevertheless, it serves as a solid foundation for review and is useful for gaining an initial understanding of the subject.

Good intro - a lot of reference to information that is older so likley needs some updates (many references to COVID 19 as if it were just recently studied after 5 years). Also, a lot of time spent on the topic of AI versus smart machine processing, whereas I would have appreciated that time spent on other anecdotes and/or modern updates to computing power, processing, etc.

I think we should have added some real-time examples for discussion and understand. There were lot of articles which were shared but i was also looking for some more discussion
