Course Description
Modern vehicles are sophisticated embedded systems built on interconnected microcontrollers and communication networks. As vehicles become more connected, understanding how these systems operate — and how they can be secured — has become increasingly important.
This course introduces automotive cybersecurity concepts from a structured, educational, and defensive perspective. You will begin by learning how embedded systems communicate and why specialized protocols such as Controller Area Network (CAN) are used in vehicles.
After building a strong foundation in CAN protocol fundamentals, you will work with a virtual vehicle simulator designed for safe and controlled experimentation. The simulator allows you to understand message structures, communication flows, and potential weaknesses in a laboratory environment without interacting with real-world vehicles.
The course also covers how automotive security researchers evaluate system design weaknesses and how manufacturers mitigate risks through secure architecture and best practices. Any hardware discussions are presented strictly for educational understanding of how diagnostic communication works in authorized and lawful settings.
This course focuses on defensive security research, vulnerability awareness, and responsible disclosure principles. All demonstrations are conducted in controlled environments and are intended solely for legal, ethical, and academic purposes.
Ethics & Legal Disclaimer
This course is provided for educational and defensive security research purposes only. Students must not attempt to access, modify, or test any vehicle or embedded system without explicit authorization from the owner and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Unauthorized access to vehicle systems is illegal and unethical.

the lessons are perfectly segmented into digestible bites. Things stay simple and build on eachother that way.

The demos really helped solidify how CAN is vulnerable. Found this course really helpful to visualize CAN and its vulnerabilities.

Overall comment: It was good. Car simulator , arduino part was interesting. suggestion: Can High , CAN low part could be little bit more elaborate . 120ohms register why used that could be also explained . Feedback: - Irritating part was the self marketing popping up in every video every few minutes. very very annoying. - Replaying the recorded can data , why you kept calling it attack ,attack all the time ? just to give the hacking vibe ? - what are the possible threats and risks are involved nothing was explained. - What are the hackers can do and what are security threats are possessed that is not explained at all . But you named the course Hacking and security .

The course provided clear and informative virtual car simulator examples, effectively illustrating the key concepts and principles covered in the material. However, the real vehicle examples presented in the course would benefit from further elaboration. For example, fully demonstrate how the concepts apply to real-world scenarios. Overall, despite the need for improvement in the real vehicle examples, this course offers a solid foundation in the underlying concepts and introduces the main tools required for this topic.

I wish you could explain how I can follow the commands from a Windows or iOS machine. For those who do not have a Linux machine installed

Very clear and well explained, time and thought was given to anticipating and answering questions new students might have and this made it easy and enjoyable to study.

I'm new to Automotive CyberSecurity and this course definitely helped me to get the basic knowledge of the CAN Protocol, Utils, Arduino and overall aspect of communication of several ECUs/Nodes in a typical automotive environment. I'm glad to have taken this course. Thanks a lot, Arsalan!!! :)

Course was good. This is best for getting started. You need to add more advanced content to this course. In the real world attack video instructor is showing only few examples. Here instructor could add more advanced and interesting contents.
