Our take
Based on the ratings of 840 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in March 2025. No course pays to be reviewed.
Tiago Taquelim's course builds a single REST API in Go over about 17 hours and 83 lectures. It starts with a bare TCP server, then moves through Postgres, posts and a user feed, email, authentication, Redis caching, testing, rate limiting and CORS. It finishes with CI/CD and a cloud deployment. A 13-lecture mini course on advanced Go sits near the start. The listing says all levels, but the one requirement is basic Go, and the reviews suggest that is a real bar.
Praise centers on the mindset. Reviewers say it teaches why each choice is made, not just syntax, and one says graceful shutdown and rate limiting finally clicked once they saw them coded step by step. Another liked the depth on Redis caching and CI/CD. One person already followed the instructor on YouTube. The complaints are just as consistent. Low-star reviewers say he talks fast, switches tabs instead of explaining, and refers back to earlier modules in a confusing way. One reports missing code snippets. An experienced Express developer still found it hard to follow.
The rating is 4.4 from 840 reviews, with 486 five-star ratings and 48 of one or two stars. The last update was March 2025. For an intermediate developer who learns by building and is happy to pause and look things up, this is a solid production-style project. Beginners should learn Go basics somewhere gentler first, because this course will not slow down for them.
Pros
- Covers Redis caching, rate limiting, graceful shutdown and CI/CD, and one reviewer praises the depth
- One API built end to end, from a raw TCP server to a cloud deployment
- Explains why each design choice is made, not only the Go syntax
- Includes a 13-lecture advanced Go mini course and a testing section
Cons
- Reviewers say he talks fast and skips explaining details of the code
- Some students report missing code snippets, which makes following along hard
- No quizzes or coding exercises, so practice is limited to following the build
Amazing course, most people don't go over Redis caching and ci/cd depth as you did, thank you!
Labeled all levels, but it needs basic Go and suits intermediate developers. Reviewers call it hard for beginners.

Course Description
In this project-based course, we will build a complete REST API in Go from scratch and deploy it to the cloud, ready to handle real traffic and scale affordably.
Our journey begins by creating a simple TCP server, which will help us explore the net/http package in Go and understand the basics of handling network communication.
Next, we’ll dive into the theory behind building reliable and composable Go web applications. From there, we’ll develop our project step-by-step, covering carefully curated topics such as request handling, middleware creation, database integration, request and database optimisations and rate limiting to equip you with the skills needed to ship real backend services to the cloud and manage real-world traffic efficiently.
This course aims to provide you with the foundational knowledge required to build and understand backend systems, implement industry best practices, and create production-ready APIs that are secure, scalable, and maintainable. It is not just a step-by-step tutorial, but a comprehensive learning experience that prepares you for real-world scenarios.

Tiago Taquelim
Software engineer and educator with 6 plus years of experience building software in startup environments. Been teaching what I learn in the last year on Youtube and at my online Skool platform.
I have started my professional journey learning by myself from unstructured Youtube videos and so I have always wanted to give back and build quality material for other developers to learn from, but without the initial struggle I had.

A really great course, Tiago not only teaches you the Go syntax, he also teaches production grade backend fundamentals with the mindset of working with a team i came from Youtube after watching the 2hr video and I loved every bit of this course so informative. Thank you Tiago for pouring your decades of experience into this wonderful piece

I learned quite a bit. Good course to take if you want to understand why you are being asked to do the things in the course.

What I appreciated most about this course is that it goes far beyond just teaching Go syntax — it covers the essential knowledge and mindset needed for backend development as a whole. I especially valued seeing concrete implementations of concepts I had previously understood only in the abstract through studying for certifications like Google Cloud Professional exams. Topics like graceful shutdown and rate limiting finally clicked for me once I saw how they're actually coded, step by step. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to level up not just their Go skills, but their overall backend engineering thinking.

That course was truly amazing. I learned so much backend stuff throughout the course. Although I already knew little bit backend development before, my mindset and methodology for building backend apps are totaly different now. I really recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn backend development. Just don’t write code you don’t understand. Take your time to understand the concepts and the code well. 5/5 stars. Thank you, Tiago!

The instructor keeps talking about things we've done in a previous module but we haven't done anything in a previous module. He doesn't explain any details about the code at all. Big waste of money.

Material de alta qualidade. Já acompanhava o professor pelo youtube. High quality material/content. Already follow the teacher at youtube, now on Udemy :)

I learned some stuff here and there, very informative. Needs to be more structured, some areas were rushed. I am new to this stuff, but I came out with something. Needed more of an explanation when it came to solution/practice problem.
By Brian Iverson on 12/31/2025
Great content, but the pacing was strange. I spent a lot of time pausing and rewinding the videos to keep up with the coding examples.

I just want to thank you for providing quality courses and also for providing "paytm" payment option as it becomes very easy for me to pay for the courses

I would genuinely recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn clean architecture and development in Go. Worth every penny.
