Course Description

Hi friends,

Are you a high school, chemistry, pharmacy, biology, nursing, or engineering student struggling with General Chemistry 101?

Do you enjoy chemistry but find it hard to study the basics?
Do you feel like the concepts are confusing and exams turn into a nightmare?

Whatever your reason for learning chemistry, this course will help you understand the essential foundations of General Chemistry. You don’t need any strong prior knowledge—everything is explained step by step to help you succeed in your studies and exams.

Students who took this course have shared how much easier chemistry became for them, how examples and quizzes made concepts clearer, and how they learned more here than they did in school.

I’m Dr. Mohammad Abualrub, PhD in Chemistry, with over 8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and more than 4 years of teaching chemistry. I designed this course to make General Chemistry simple, structured, and practical for students like you.

Here’s a quick overview of what we’ll cover:

Section 1 – Matter and Measurement

  • Introduction to chemistry and the scientific method

  • Matter, elements, compounds, and mixtures

  • States, properties, and changes of matter

  • Units, scientific notation, significant figures, accuracy, precision, and dimensional analysis

Section 2 – Atoms, Molecules, and Ions

  • Atomic theory, atomic models, isotopes

  • Periodic table and classification of elements

  • Ionic, molecular, and organic compounds

  • Rules for charges, naming compounds, acids, hydrates, and chemical equations

Section 3 – Calculations with Chemical Formulas and Equations

  • The mole concept and mole calculations

  • Determining formulas and elemental analysis

  • Stoichiometry, limiting reactants, and theoretical yield

Section 4 – Chemical Reactions

  • Ionic theory, electrolytes, solubility rules

  • Acid-base and redox reactions

  • Molecular and ionic equations, quantitative analysis

Section 5 – Gaseous State

  • Gas laws (Boyle’s, Charles’s, Gay-Lussac’s, Avogadro’s)

  • Ideal gas law, STP, gas density, stoichiometry, mixtures, and real gases

Section 6 – Thermochemistry

  • Thermodynamics, heat capacity, enthalpy, and thermodynamic equations

Section 7 – Quantum Theory and Electronic Structure

  • Properties of waves, Bohr’s model, Schrödinger equation

  • Aufbau principle, Hund’s rule, and electron configurations

Section 8 – Periodic Relationships

  • Atomic radius, ionization energy, electron affinity, and periodic trends

Section 9 – Ionic and Covalent Bonding

  • Ionic vs covalent bonds, electronegativity, Lewis structures, formal charge

Section 10 – Molecular Geometry and Bonding Theory

  • VSEPR model, dipole moments, polar molecules, hybridization

The course also includes quizzes for every section to test your understanding and reinforce learning, covering topics like elements, mixtures, chemical equations, mole calculations, gas laws, enthalpy, electron configurations, and bonding.

You’ll get clear explanations, worked examples, and practice exercises to build confidence in solving chemistry problems.

This course is your step-by-step guide to mastering General Chemistry and preparing for exams with ease.

Dr Mohammad Abualrub

Hi, my name is Dr. Mohammad Abualrub. I hold a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Chemistry from Jordan, and later I joined the pharmaceutical industry, where I worked for nearly eight years as a Chemical Analyst in Quality Control and Research & Development departments.

I was then honored with the Malaysian International Scholarship (MIS), which allowed me to pursue my PhD in Organic Chemistry at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

After completing my doctorate, I served as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at a private university in Jordan for four years, where I taught General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Analytical Chemistry to undergraduate students. I have published several research papers in the field of chemistry and developed expertise in advanced analytical techniques such as Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) for drug analysis.

In addition to my academic and research career, I have been highly engaged in online marketing and digital entrepreneurship for the past four years. My skills include content writing, data analysis, website design, and online business strategies.

Above all, I am passionate about teaching and lifelong learning. I strive to inspire students of all ages and help them achieve success in both academic and professional life.

I took this course in order to refresh my memory in order to be ready for further level chemistry courses. These lessons were pretty helpful and made me feel confident in regards to my chemistry knowledge. It was a worthy purchase and I'll surely recommend it to any friend that may need help in chemistry.

The instructor is ridiculously hard to understand. Because of this problem I have resorted to watching and listening to other sources to learn the material of each topic that heads up each subject of the course. It is hard to learn from the quizzes because if there is a wrong answer selected the result is not specifically associated with the question for which a wrong answer was chosen. "Rewatch the previous lecture" is an accurate paraphrase given when the student looks for guidance on where the problem originates. In addition to the lack of guidance on incorrect answers, exclamation marks typically accompany the result of a chosen answer. The answer is either correct or incorrect, there is no need for "!!!" following either result. There is nearly zero practical application brought in to what is learned to help make the theory relevant.

Pros: This course is a great course, for anyone taking General Chemistry I, or anyone getting ready to take General Chemistry I. This course looks to cover all the Content of General Chemistry I and not only that, but there are lots and lots of quizzes to make sure you are learning the content! No Content is merely breezed over, it has excellent detail for all content. Cons: The English could be better, but does not make learning the topic any harder. I would most definitely recommend this to anyone interested in chemistry, taking chemistry, or wanting to get ahead in chemistry.

The course accomplishes its premises. I already have a degree in chemistry, and it was really refreshing going through this. I saw a lot of people complaining about the instructor's accent, but I could understand it pretty well. It is understandable, and the videos have subtitles, even though some words are wrong, it really helps to go through the course. The professor answered really quickly all my doubts. This kind of attention is a big plus to me. In conclusion, I am satisfied with the course.

As others have stated, the instructor is difficult to understand giving his accent. However, the transcript and/or subtitles easily surmount this issue allowing you to put all your focus on learning. The material is very well structured and organized so that you know what to expect in each section. Additionally, multiple quizzes are given throughout each section (not just at the end) to ensure comprehension is maximized. Highly recommended!

this course is really good but i fell like its a little advanced for me but i still am learning things i didnt know before and will continue learning in this class

By Charil Christensen on 9/9/2018

The course is good but I had difficulty with understanding the instructor (even with closed captioning). Also all the charts and graphs that were used in course (over 100) were not supplied so I had to look them up online to get them.

By Zoltan Simon on 8/22/2018

In the chemistry there are a lot of details what they can not be learning for the first sight and there are not such a lot of time to teach all, but I think this course gives someone a basic knowledgement with them a chemists can be improving itselves. The chemistry is such a subject that they must have been improving and studying. I think this course can be useful and structurical.

By Kristina Yarmolich on 7/31/2018

I am trying to prepare myself for a chemistry placement test and this course works perfectly! It covers all basic topics that I need to know. The information is well-organized and the course is also well-illustrated. Would recommend!
