New lessons added in 2025!

This course is for beginners. Are you brand new to Containers? Have you found that many of the training resources out there use complex technical jargon that make it difficult to understand the basic concepts? If you need to get a basic understanding of Docker and Kubernetes quickly and clearly, this is the course for you.

Frequent quizzes and downloadable PDF study guides are recent additions to this course that will help you learn even faster!

This course answers the questions:

  • What are microservices and containers?

  • What do Docker and Kubernetes do, and what are some of the key terms I should know?

  • What cloud solutions exist (AWS, Google, and Azure)?

  • What is the best way for my organization to get started with Containers?

  • How do I get started with Docker?

  • How can I create a Kubernetes Cluster and deploy apps?

I have taught hundreds of thousands of students across a variety of platforms, and I think anyone brand new to containers will love this course. Most lectures in this course are 5 - 10 minutes long. This course gives you an understanding of what Docker and Kubernetes do, and how to run them in the cloud. This course is meant to be a quick primer.

It includes basic hands-on demos that you can do, including getting started with Docker, creating and running Docker Containers, and creating your first Kubernetes Cluster and deploying a sample application.

If you are just getting started with Containers, this course will give you a strong foundation and is the ideal starting point.

I mainly enrolled to refresh my stale AWS knowledge re containers but also to get a basic understanding of containerization modern practices. This course exceeded my expectations because I achieved my goal of grasping the fundamentals but also got some valuable hands-on time, which may lead to taking a more in-depth course.

This was a very good match for me as a Network engineer wanting to learn more about docker, containers and kubernetes, I especially liked the AI role play which helped me practice concepts i just learned and solidify the information in my memory

Very good introduction to those who are not familiar with Docker and Kubernetes (as myself). I personally find quizzes a bit tedious because they stop the flow of the lectures, but it is not a big deal at the end of the day. A good course overall.

Best course I have ever watched for learning Docker and K8S! Kudos! Great course for beginners! Keep making such great content! thanks!

By Jacolby Green on 2/9/2026

I am taking this course to provide me a high level overview of Docker and K8s. It serves as a supplement to help me dive deeper into the main topic that I am studying, building microservices using the Go programming language. It has been great so far!

liked the material but it would have been better if some more example and discussions on issues which can be faced are discussed more

The introduction to containers is clear and well structured. In the lab section, though, I would have preferred fewer copy‑and‑paste steps and more explanation of the commands and their purpose. Exercises to try independently, followed by a walkthrough, would make the learning experience stronger. It would also be helpful to include more hands‑on practice on building containers and parametrizing them through YAML files, instead of simply copying predefined configurations. For example, adjusting settings in a MySQL container would give a better sense of how to interact with containers beyond just running them. The sections on Google Cloud and AWS are interesting but could be more concise to leave more room for practical work. The Kubernetes demo is fine as a quick showcase, but copying commands without understanding them adds little; it would be more useful to first explain how a cluster is set up, and then show how those concepts apply on cloud platforms. Overall, the course is good, but I would have enjoyed a stronger focus on understanding containers, building them, and practicing orchestration, with the cloud section as a brief final overview.

This training is resulting really useful for me, easy to understand even without much knowledge before about this kind of software implementation. As a product owner, I try to understand with this course how all this orchestration works together to understand better the implementation of "my" functionalities.

I can know the docker and Rick can give me the details and the mechanism on how cloud plat form run the containers( K8s ). But I actually also want a big comparison on the different cloud platforms with k8s. For example, when you talk about the fargate in aws, what comes to my mind is the cloudrun in gcp. But if I don't know anything about the gcp I will not combine them like string of pearls necklace. I want to know at the first glance in this cloud part teaching. Please have an update! Thank you!
