Bob Davis is surely a good professional photographer, but he isn't that good at teaching. There is no point in showing a picture on the back screen of a DSLR in a video, niether an histogram (sometimes a picture is taken of the back screen an showed... but this should be done each time, not sometimes). It's nice to say tens times "Good", "Excellent", "Killer" but it's frustrating to see only one or two pictures of the dozen taken. Also the whole course looks a little bit like a sponsorized content for Canon and Wescott gear... Out of that, I would say that it's more like a masterclass where an artist explain you his way of working than a comprehensive global course upon speedlight lighting.

Overall a very good course. A lot of good lighting information/techniques and use of modifiers. Only reason for not giving 5 stars is that some advice could get overly complicated for some while in the field shooting, especially more beginners not yet professionally proficient with their DSLR. I believe several lighting effects that the instructor prefers to do in camera could simply be done with some proficiency in lightroom/photoshop. Don't think the instructor is a big fan of much post processing, which is certainly fine and what to always strive for, but there are other options if you don't mind taking the time to do it.

good informative course which lead me to basically understand what I Need using flashes and available light sources. Most importantly how to control or cancel ambient light when needed. Already bought what the flash course and can't wait for Bob to teach me more skills. Bob's methods of teaching was very smooth, specially when he shows a wrong application of photos and then corrects them with the right ones. perfect method.

he showed ways to make light less expense . show faster setup. better ways to shape light. I think this is one of Udemy better course and i have taken over 30 classes now .Maybe had i taken this class sooner my shots would been looking better sooner. but im almost 72 years old so it takes me a little longer, that is the great thing ,about when i forget some thing . I can come back and look at it again! AND AGAIN LOL

I had a great experience, Bob is a great instructor, he explain everything really well, one thing I really enjoyed is that he present everything in a very simple way, for someone that need to learn from scratch or needs to improve. He uses way less expensive ways to light, compared to other courses I had it, and that's great, not everyone has money to buy monolights or expensive strobes, he uses speedlites and that was exactly what I was looking for. Speedlites is less expensive, is way more mobile and I do believe everyone needs to learn well how to use flashes before they go to strobe lights, and I needed to learn. I learn and finally understand well how to use kelvin in my camera and I already did some cool test, love it. I highly recommend this course.

Great introduction to lighting and modifiers, with an emphasis on speedlights. There is also an extensive section of studio and on-location demonstrations where Bob sets up shots and works with models while explaining what he is doing, and why, all along the way. You will finish this course with a solid foundation in lighting and the motivation to get out there and start working with flash/strobes for yourself.

I really enjoyed the course: The good: - Great explanation of light modifiers etc and how useful speedlites can be - Repetition of key point re aperture and shutter speed on light - Creative use of gels etc to vary light - Bob is very easy to listen to and it's easy to absorb the information - Although he makes constant reference to Canon gear most of the information provided is not limited to the gear he uses Not so good: - Use of continuous lights in demos showed the ability to see impact of light direction and modifiers - I might have to buy more gear :) - I think I want a Westcott Orb and Apollo

I have purchased many courses about photography lighting in Udemy and this one is very complete and he really shows you how he does it in every single topic the theory he explains with practical examples inside his studio or outside with models and not only that he also explains what his equipment is for. I just wish he could give me a presential class or be her assistant to learn more. He recommends expensive equipment but you can always search for cheaper online.

This is a great course and helped me a lot to learn so much about lighting. Bob is a great teacher and goes through everything in detail while keeping it interesting. I have been a photographer for a few years now, very comfortable with landscapes and city environments, but have always avoided flash as I never understood the basics. This course has everything on how to get good lighting and what to consider in any shoot, which will be a great help to me going forward. Bob covers all the equipment he uses and how to use everything in the best possible way to get the photos you want. Thanks Bob! You've given me a lot of confidence in my future photography.
