This course is great so far, but the teacher spent most of the time in this course talking about basic and already taught things over and over again. For example, why would we need to listen for 15-20 seconds about how to navigate to the virtual machine and how to host the server for the project? Also the way he teaches is too slow

The instructor doesn't focus too much on the basics and theory of Django which would take ages but gets right into actual practical usage while dishing out information here and there.....overall a great crash course to get you interested in the subject but not quite enough to get you developing.

Simple and easy-to-follow beginner tutorial to get your feet into learning Django and Django REST framework. In the lecture, Mark explains everything thoroughly so that I was able to understand why this line of code was written. The only thing I would suggest is that using Vagrant as a development environment didnt seem relevant considering latest trends for virtual machines or servers.

Honestly This is the most clear-cut and the most engaged tutorial I have ever had on Udemy about Django Rest Framework. The author takes time to explain everything he is doing and most importantly the why of it. No shortcuts, no distraction ,just focus on the Django Rest and things are done in the right way. Thank you so much Mark Winterbottom for making available such a great course. I do like your teaching style.

I am editing my review to apologize for my previous bad review and also thank you for this amazing course. I was new to coding and naturally was frustrated in the beginning. I am sure it is same for many. This course is very well put and I keep coming back for reference when I feel I need a quick review of any concept. Also special thanks for teaching how to commit code in github.

Full-stack web development is COMPLICATED! Sorry if I misrepresent any concepts here. I learned about the API, which I had previously not even been aware of. The API is used to access and edit the data structure of a web project. Basically, when creating a website (or web app, I guess), you should start with the API, then expand the back-end from that, and only after the API and back-end are solid should you consider starting on the front-end. I think that starting with the back-end is difficult for new learners because the front-end is where we create all of the neat graphics and animations we have seen on websites. It’s satisfying and even fun to do front-end work because you can SEE what you've created and gain a lot of satisfaction from making something look good. By contrast, the back-end can be complex and very cerebral. You have to use your imagination to 'see' any kind of form in your data structure. The API helps with this. What it gives you is kind of like a no-frills configurable front-end that provides a connection to your data structure. This allows you to focus on structuring your data, routing the flow of your data, and eliminating bugs without writing a single line of HTML or CSS. It’s like building a car from the frame up and the car’s body is like a website’s front-end. You have a functional working machine before you bolt on the body. Mark explains every step using clear and carefully chosen words. Remember, he is explaining COMPLEX concepts, but he is doing it in a deliberate and concise manner. His explanations are what you will need to pursue that deeper understanding needed to do a very brainy job. If you are new, use this course to get your introduction to an array of new and crucial skills. If you are experienced, I think you will benefit significantly from following his structured methodology.

It only considers best cases, doesn't mentioned commonly encountered errors. Would be good to provide heads up for possible issues. It would be best if you could have basic introduction of django before starting this project, because this course doesn't address django concepts which are deeply coupled with rest_framework.

This is a brief course on Django Rest Framework. The project is super useful. He shows changing the default Django user class with Rest Framework. Later he shows how to deploy app to AWS which is amazing . The only reason I gave 4.5 instead of 5 is that. He could respond to questions a bit faster takes him 3-5 days to respond to a question. But then you have stackoverflow etc to help you there. Overall I loved this course and I am glad I took it

Learnt a lot of new stuff so far. I guess the course is for someone who has a little bit of prior experience with Python/Django bc the rest framework is kind of an addition to Django. It was well suited for me though as I have a little experience with python and Django. Someone without prior experience might have a to do a some extra reading on top of this course.

Instructor was very clear in his explanations. I appreciated that he demonstrated a good development process using vagrant, virtualenvwrapper, and git. Showing how to deploy to AWS was also perfect since that is what most of us need to do. If Mark has more classes I will definitely be taking them.
